I sense a paradoxical situation here: if Zibri is right, then he's wrong; and perhaps the reciprocal applies. If Zibri si right (that they have the secpack for a month) that means the software unlock could not be found in all that time. Then he is probably wrong betting.
Now, I don't take sides. Maybe G's motives for posting info were not that noble; I don't know, and I don't care. He gave us what we wanted (well, sort of... but at least he gave us something). Maybe Z's motives were very noble, but they fired back. People are freaking out pinging this forum non-stop, waiting for a sign. Free information has always had its price.
So, there are a few scenarios:
. they have the software unlock already, but they won't release it until the next planet alignment. Yes, I know because that might give Apple the upper ground. This is complete BS: Apple will always have the upper ground, no matter what. And a side-note: their motto "We don't like secrecy" on their home page becomes utter crap, don't you think?
. they don't have the software unlock, but they'll get it eventually. This is what everybody prays for.
. they don't have the software unlock, and there will be none. Nasty!
Anyway, even if they find a software unlock, here are some things to ponder on:
. if it will consist of downgrading the bootloader using software methods, then they found the holy grail
. if it will consist of "cheating" the current bootloader, then you will always need the next secpack if you accidentally upgrade; or be doomed to stay with the current baseband bugs (if any). Suddenly, the hardware unlock doesn't look that bad...

i don't see why people are risking bricking there iphone with this hardware method regardless if its possible or not when a sim solution is cheaper and less or NO risk at all.
if a software method ends up never happening, people should result to a method thats safest and easiest, a sim solution. i would never consider opening my iphone unless it was a last resort, but there are other options that exist even with this hardware method being the most recent.
IF, its never possible, don't cry about it. everyone bought iphones with hopes of a unlock but noone even knew forsure(including me). if it happens then YAY, if not suck it up and do whats necessary(like i have and many others). dev team never told u guys to go buy an iphone with hopes of a release. and jus because 1.1.1 happened when noone thought it would doesn't mean every version released will be cracked.
any dev who knows dark_alex from psp world should contact him and try to have him learn about the iphone. he was a god in the psp world. and i don't see an iphone being far fetched from his capabilities.

And i personally think that this zibri dude is some selfish person searching for fame or something and is totally jealous of geohot.
He constantly blames him for things and insults him. What the hell dude? This is not a war! Either work together or shut up! Why waste time to insult him?
Sorry for all this but i'm very offended! Geohot has given us so much and we should be thankful for his knowledge and willingness to share. Zibri, well i never understood his intentions. Wether he want's to make a business out of this or help us?
The fact that Geohot has lost hope in the software unlock, doesn't mean that it's over. Someone else will find a way either zibri or some chinese dudes, or maybe russians, I don't know. They just have to work together. Combining all your knowledge can only be compared to combining a couple of hundred Quad Core Processors in one.
You guys are the amazing ones, you can change the future of our iPhones, either brick them or unlock them. It's all because of you that we got everything we have right now. Many people are worshiping you and your knowledge. I personally admire every word you say and every technical detail you include in your blogs.
Please keep up the good work. Work together. Don't fight. We are in this together and we will support you until the end.
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING !!!

Whether or not a 1.1.3+ S/W unlock comes out, I think Apple has shown some amazing degree of proficiency in securing the iPhone. It is only 7 months from its release and the hacking community is going nuts trying to get into it.
By the time the second generation iPhone comes out, it would probably be virtually impossible to jailbreak/unlock it. The iPhone will by that time by herailed by Apple as the holly grail of secure platforms.

well, i think its no time for overreacting. although i think that geo knows what he is talking about, we need some further opinions. but hopefully he ís wrong
but one thing is for sure: if it was easy to crack 1.1.2 otb, then would have already done it.
