Works perfect. Instructions from Hackintosh.

after reading this thread i have a few questions:
1. what kind of wire do i use? i see some of you used stereo wire. where can i purchase that? can i just use old ipod headphones and cut the edges?
2. someone said you don't have to scratch the A17 trace. if you don't have to, i ain't doing it then. but how hard did you have to push down with the needle?
3. when you get to the part of restoring to 1.1.2 and then to 1.1.1, do you get the infamous 1015 error in itunes with either/both or none of the firmwares?
4. do you press shift + restore or shift + update when going directly to 1.1.2, before downgrading back to 1.1.1?
5. will a school compass really work instead of a ghetto mash up of two needles, black tape and wire? i plan on using sewing needles. does that work? :p

Infact at very first attempt i lost my own handset which is 1.1.3 now actually i did a mistake but after that i unlocked few pcs that is flawless
i wrote a guide too here
My iphone was bricked... I voted it went poorly. But ive ended up with a unlocked iphone. Details here:
For those contemplating just pushing a needle through the soldermask consider that this is a multi-layer board and if you perforate into the next layer you may damage something permanently with no way to repair it. Obviously some people have been able to do it without a problem, but just food for thought.
Poll Unlock unsucess HW reasons
Admin, could be a good idea to poll the unsucess reasons?
I attempted the unlock yesterday with a friend who is used to assembling/disassembling stuff.
I have to say I am very disappointed. I could not get the metal case out. We finally gave up after 6 hours.
Also, I ended up bending the sides of the case which looks horrible. If I could remove it, I might be able to push it back into place, but I'm afraid to try again now :/
We popped out one of the sides of the metal case rather easily, and then spent 4 hours trying to pop out the other one (the one with volume buttons, etc)... we had to give up.
Advice to anyone thinking of doing this:
You WILL get scratches and you WILL bend your case if you attempt to do this.
Okay I tried it about 2 days ago, took about 3.5 hrs to finally get backing plate off iwth miniscrewdrive flathead and a creditcard (left small marks on backing plate) But my backing plate got caught on one spring clip and made it alot harder. (take it off evenly).
Used screwdriver to get enough space to slide credit card in then started to pry alot the caseing towards corner and moved up creditcard about 3mm each time till I got to the corner when all the clips came undone.
I started when they just started to say you could also use terminal... not just use terminal... whoops... so I had it freeze dureing ienew and of course when I lost wifi I eventually got fustrated and tried to reset.... double whoops....
So eventually downgraded to 1.0.2. jailbreak using AppTapp, Activated thanks to ALEX's activation files, which got me back to springboard and loaded files and applications to iphone using ibrickr.
Finished the BL downgrade. Then upgraded (actually I only restored back up to 1.1.2 and I did get wifi back and everything else) and then down graded to 1.1.1 to unlock and now on the path to upgrading back to 1.1.2. Will be done soon...
Total hrs. about 18... but hey it's a learning experience (besides I thought I'd have to upgrade to 1.1.3 and wait till 1.1.4 came out to unlock... dang that would have sucked)
Used 2 sewing machine needles and stripped off the ends of a twist tie to connect them both for the A17 trace... I did scratch about 1mm worth of the trace line... your needle is very fine and it barely sits inside the trace (trace line is about 1/10th of a mm thick = super thin) so I don't or would not want to add any undue pressure which could sever the connection... or it turns into expensive ipod touch...
yeah I did a tonne of restores and try it again... but hey it does eventually work.
be kind to the iphone
and you will finish it (just don't BREAK IT!!!)
and you'll have ootb 1.1.2 with 3.9 BL heheh WEEEE... onto the next one
hopefully it'll be easier second time around........
