i would not do this method. it is not worth it. i followed i.unlock.no instructions. i got the antenna case off pretty easy. then the instructions say to stick a screwdriver in and pop the case. well boy did that fuck things up. i stuck a tiny screwdriver in and then pop! nope it wasnt the case poping open. something inside lighted up and by that i mean caught on fire and smoke started coming out. good thing there is no room for a fire inside the case so it went out after a few short seconds. my guess is i punctured the battery pack but those instructions were just irresponsible. im suprised this has not happen to anyone but me so i can say im the first one to make the iphone catch on fire. but the good thing is, the iphone kept working then stopped working but still booted up and stayed in a rebooting loop. i took it to the apple store and was still in my 14day period. good thing they didnt take a good look at the back casing. they tested it real quickly and asked me if the rebooting was the problem and i said yes and i wasnt able to even activate it! haha. they gave me a new phone, a week 52, so theres still time to get an iphone before 1.1.3otb. now i got a china3ggp sim clone for 50bux and the guy even threw in 2 ipod protector cases and a car charger. seriously it is totally worth it and my iphone is perfectly unlocked now with no problems. just go on ebay and buy a next sim or something and save yourself the trouble

To be really honest, its ture that if you were to buy a sim it would be easier, but i as well as some other would agree that it the whole opening it up and short circuiting the phone thing which is cool.

    well
did i scratch my phone? yes (new cover $50)
did i get it working? yes (BL 3.9)
    the whole expericence priceless

remember its not the destination but the journey thats important

note to all: if you're a noob at opening things then follow instructions closely, but if you have ball of toufu rather than steel than dont try this at home ir for the case anywhere at all!

Sheesh! I tried the screwdriver trick as well and it just messed up my cover.
(Luckily nothing other than that broke)

So yes, my HW unlock worked perfectly and everything survived except for the back covers.

Anyone faced a problem during hardware unlock as follows:

    1) Run ienew -> Says can't write data
    2) Run iunew -> Stuck at Spamming AT, waiting for a response (although test point is connected) - Tried 20 times already.

Thumbs up Worked like a charm..

i unlocked two phones this weekend without big problems (6 hours).
    some tipps:
    * i practice scratching the circuit path and setting test-point on an old pci-card: got it right on the iphone on first try - twice.
    * opening the case is really hard, take your time. don't follow guides for the i-pod opening tool if you don't have one.
    * because i had problems jailbreaking: keep phone connected to pc and itunes running when surfing to jailbreakme.com
    * fully charge your phone before the bootloader part
    * i followed to i.unlock.no guide

    good luck!

    Hey guys,

Barely got the black antenna cover off, and now having an impossible time with the silver cover. Even if I apply pressure with a screw driver under the panel I dont create enough room to slide even a guitar pick in!!! Any help at this stage is greatly appreciated!

i also succesfully unlocke my otb 1.1.2, it did take me like 5-6 hours but like what rykieljhun said, the adventure is totally worth it

i used guitar picks to open the phone, i was surprised that i only had one small scratch on the back of my iphone,
i had term-vt100 installed and did basically the whole unlock on that
worked perfectly, my only regret is that i didnt unlock it sooner than i did
