[1.1.2 OTB][HowTo] Unlock iPhone for other GSM Carrier? (first timer)
Im planning on buying an Iphone soon and use it in another country. Right now, most are iphone sold at stores come with 1.1.2 firmware.
I have spent days googling for the right documents/instruction but yet to find any with a proper instruction and frequently run across article that marks the restriction for 1.1.2.
Please if anyone is kind enough to tell me what do i need to purchase/prepare to complete an unlock for international use (other sims) rather than using it as just an ipodtouch.
Found a pinned thread on 1.1.2 OTB Hardware unlock in this forum but there but there.
Shall i ever perform my unlock wrongly, will there be a tool to completely reset my iphone to its otb state or to maybe send it in for warranty service? $399 is a rather costly for another try.
Please remember that IM COMPLETELY NEW to unlocking an iPhone. Appreciate your help.

hi,
there is no software-unlock for 1.1.2 OOTB. so if you want unlock it you must use the hardware-instuction. as you told you are new to the whole stuff i guess you will brick your phone during the process. (or at least loss wifi, bt or else hw)
you can also choose a *sim solution like turbo, stealth, next,.. sim. (then you need not to modify your hardware, you just have to follow the jailbreak instuctions and cut a corner of you sim-card to make)
or you do it like me and just keep waiting till the s/w unlock comes.

had each generation of iphones jailbroken
status quo: iphone4 fw4.0

Grumps! Currently there is no software unlock for the 1.1.2 otb.
No one knows when it will be out. We are talking days, weeks maybe even months.
Currently you have two options.
1. Hardware unlock, which I wouldnt recommend if you are new to this.
2. Buy a bladox turbosim.

Will sim unlock expose me to bricking my phone?
If it doesnt, which of the sims are better and where do i get them?
Once i get them, how do i perform the unlock.
[I notice some user on ebay selling 1.1.3 unlocked using sim unlock method]
and apparently TurboSim(Bladox) is sold out

cheapest you can get off ebay. chances that they get patched permanently in future are high, but also that there will be a software unlock someday. so keep 1.1.2 for now and get a 30$ chinese sim adapter.

you jailbreak your phone according to the guides (downgrade 1.1.1 -> install oktoprep -> upgrade 1.1.2 -> jailbreak -> install iworld -> set your reagion -> insert your sim with the sim adapter (you need to cut a little plastic off your original sim, but thats no prob -> and viola)

turbosim have a chance to last some more updates, but they are traded pretty high atm since the production was flooded by immense askin from the unlocking community and noone knows when they start producing them again.
as said, dont bother with cheap china sims like the NextSim from ebay.. it was 30 euros for me and workes like a charm

I did look through the forum several days before i posted this thread, infact im still looking through it now.
Btw, the site did mention "These instructions do not unlock your iPhone to use on other carriers. They do however allow you to install applications and in general use your iPhone as an iPod touch."
Should i still use it?
Can anyone recommend any affordable sim that is popular/working for OTB 1.1.2

Ok Grumps, let's get down to it, You can follow that guide in order to JAILBREAK your iPhone so you can use Safari, Mail, iPod, Maps, Weather YouTube and ALL the features in your shiny new device.
so, that guide is for JAILBREAKING, while UNLOCKING is something you have to do to use the Phone function of your iPhone.
UNLOCKING your iPhone, as you must know by now, is possible ONLY with a *SIM solution, which WILL COST $. As I have read, all of them work and offer different features, the most reliable and costly(US$100) ones are "StealthSIM's" there are some Chinese cards that will also work properly, and plus they're cheaper(US$50), that doesn't always mean that they are faulty, just do a good search and try taking a look at the 4rth Generation Chinese *SIM's.
NOTE: Remember, THERE IS NO complete guarantee even if you acquire the expensive ones, remember that SHIT HAPPENS.
Now, back to JAILBREAKING, IF done well, it is completely safe and recomendable.
Now, WHEN JAILBROKEN, you just need to be prudent and don't go and try to do everything you read, nor install every freaking app you see, ALWAYS search before installing, some apps or updates are reported to be conflictive but NOT in ALL the cases so that's why it is difficult to make a list or something about them, JUST SEARCH, READ, and make a choice under your OWN RISK.
I have five jailbroken, NOT UNLOCKED, week 51, 1.1.2 OOB iPhones working perfectly with all functions and I haven't experienced ANY kind off problem like those posted throughout the forum. IF SOFTWARE unlock doesn't comes, I will use a *SIM card.
After that peace will reign over the world
Hope it helped (thumbs)
