Default [1.1.2 OTB] Downgrade to 1.0.2 impossible for week > 47 phones?

After trying for about two days to downgrade an OTB 1.1.2 iPhone to 1.0.2, because of a failed HW unlock attempt (lost wifi, now 'repair needed') and looking around posts on this and other forum boards, it has come to my attention that lots of people have problems doing the downgrade where iTunes just stuck on the 'Waiting for iPhone' screen, and the iPhone showing the Apple logo along with the spinning ball at the bottom, with no success.

This seems to be a common issue for week 48 and further phones (mine es 49). I don't know what could possibly have changed making it impossible to downgrade. I can go to both 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 (always without wifi and with the 'Repair Needed' message). I'm pretty sure that upgrading the phone to 1.1.3 would fix this issues but I want to avoid that to all cost.

I've been fiddling around with the contents of the 1.0.2 ipsw file. I've come to the conclusion that what makes the phone to stay on the 'Waiting for iPhone' state is the included 'kernelcache' file. If anyone knows of a way to patch such file (or some other part of the ipsw for that matter) in order to be able to downgrade and boot the phone with 1.0.2 would be greatly appreciated. I also tried changing a 'ForceNANDErase' bool value to 'false' on the Restore.plist for 1.0.2 (thinking that perhaps the 'Waiting for iPhone' message was produced when iTunes tried to erase the NAND portion of the phone and failed) with no success. I even removed the key from the file but still always get stuck on 'Waiting for iPhone'.

Hi! I'm in the same situation, did you manage to install 1.0.2?

^ This has yet to work for me. I've tried on Vista and on XP Pro. I've tried using different USB ports. I've tried with manual DFU, manual USB+Itunes recovery, and automatic iBrickr to set DFU.

    Nothing. I can replicate errors 1011, 9, 1, and -14.

Trying to restore to 1.0.2 hangs at "Waiting for iPhone..." for as long as I'm willing to wait until I perform a manual recovery mode restart (whichever one, doesn't matter).

I also cannot restore to 1.1.2 using any method. Doing so hangs at "Restoring ..." for probably 10 minutes and then I get an error (usually unexpected 9).

I can restore to 1.1.1 in a round-about way, but then I have no IMEI or ICCID (ie "repair needed"), which also means I can't *#307# or *#301# to get into contacts to get into prefs: to get into wifi to use wireless jailbreak.

Now, iBrickr recognizes 1.1.1, and asks me if I want to downgrade to 1.0.2. If I try that - it no workey.

In 1.1.1, I can go into Field Test mode, but that shows me nothing. The values are blank for everything (except LCD ID).

I was thinking of trying to connect using iPhoneinterface.

I wonder if I have a physically damaged comm board?

Welp, here's off to try more.

I haven't had any luck trying to downgrade to 1.0.2, I've already tried on 5 different computers (3 Macs / 2 PCs) all with different OS/iTunes version.

I don't think the issues is caused because of a damaged comm board, I'd tend to think that for phones manufactured after week 47 there is no way to downgrade to 1.0.2.

I've tried every single method: Manual DFU, iBrickr, iTunes, iphuc + filecopytophone WTF, etc., with no success: always stuck at 'Waiting for iPhone'.

As I've said before, I can restore to both 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 (1.1.2 takes a long time, around 20 minutes) but none of them gets WiFi, so I can't even possibly jailbreak.

At least you're one step better than me! I can't even restore to 1.1.2. Actually, I think I did once - but I can't seem to any more.

Just a little update to let you know, I had no choice but to upgrade to 1.1.3. After that the WiFi started working again and I could downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak and activate. My unlock atempt couldn't get any further so I'm now stuck waiting for 1.1.4 (or will it be 1.2?)

    Regards.

Thanks for the update, boliva. I'm not sure which way I'm going to go yet. At least it's good to know that 1.1.3 will restore the f/w in this situation.

I'm tempted to leave this one alone, and go get another 1.1.2 OTB and see if I can downgrade to 1.0.2, and if not then return it and eat the 10% restocking fee.

I have a week 48 iphone with no wi-fi after trying the h/w unlock, i have tried 3 different computers -even a new one-, itunes versions 7.3, 7.3.1, 7.4.2, 7.5.0.20, and 7.6 without success.

Tried ibrick, itunes, and all the methods that have been posted succesfull from other guys in this forum, no success.

Maybe boot 4.6 is somewhat different after week 47.

I'm posting just to let you know my situation.

    have fun,

    j.
