What bootloader do you have? (If you purchased your phone with 1.1.2 OTB then you probably have bootloader 4.6, but if you look at the serial number of your phone, the fourth and fifth digits will tell you what week your phone was manufactured -- if it is week 45 or higher then you have 4.6 bootloader).

Once you know what bootloader you have, there are excellent, step-by-step instructions on how to unlock your phone at hackthatphone.com. Go to the 1.1.2 section and after it takes you to a new page, click on the "Start Here" near the top of the page.

If you really do need to downgrade your baseband (i.e., your modem firmware), hackthatphone.com has a tutorial here http://www.hackthatphone.com/112/iph...eband_mac.html.

I agree with the author of those pages, though, that there are very limited circumstances where it should be necessary to downgrade the baseband/modem firmware. I have done it once, to get my IPSF-unlocked phone back to 1.1.2 with the matching baseband/modem firmware (after I upgraded to 1.1.3 but needed to go back to 1.1.2 to use a particular program).

If I was you I would use the iplus method by updating to 1.1.4 then downgrading to 3.9FB. I have done this process even though I didn't need to (legit o2 UK contract) then used iphone-tools1.1.4a to update back to 4.6ORIG (not without headaches) and all is well. Follow the sticky and you'll be fine.
    Peace,

    Dok
