2 very important 'steps' not mentioned in that 'take-apart' - (1) TURN OFF PHONE before starting to take apart the case. SHOULD BE DONE AFTER Step 5 - BEFORE Step 6.
(2) TURN PHONE BACK ON - Do it at end of PAGE 2 BEFORE GOING TO Page 3.
If you have dismantled the case correctly the phone should be in the same state as when you started - if it doesn't 'start' then you already have BIG problems - DON'T GO ANY FURTHER - Recheck all connections you may have disturbed.
Only proceed to Page 3 when the phone is working as a Jailbroken 1.1.1
And if you get through to Page 4 then it's time to put the phone back together

Why does the guide say deprecated? I thought that meant there is now a better way.

Not sure about the deprecated bit, think it is because 1.1.3 is out and he has moved to those guides. NO better way exists currently as far as I am aware however.

I am sorry but, people who don't realise that, before they start to disassemble their iphone, they have to "power off" ... LOL ... they shouldnt continue anyhow ...
It is very obvious they know nothing about electronics and they will just ruin their Iphone even with the best tutorial in the world ...
