Default 1.1.2 OOB from Genius Bar - SoftActivation - What is possible?

I just replaced my dead iPhone at the local Apple store Genius bar. The new phone is loaded with 1.1.2 and is in softActivation mode, according to Independence. This means it is unlocked, but not activated or jailbroken. I can make calls and send/receive SMS messages with a non-AT&T SIM card.

My question is this: If I try and downgrade to 1.1.1 to activate and jailbreak the phone, will the Soft Activation state be changed to locked? If this happens, then I would be swapping my phone functions (with no synced address book data, ipod songs, calendars, etc) for full usage of the other functions (after sync) but no phone.

you got it completely backwards, your phone is activated but not jailbroken and not unlocked. you cannot use a sim other than ATT.

should you go down to 1.1.1 you will lose that state (an act of restoring will break that) we do however have a method of returning to that state, it is the basis of the activation hack (search lockdownd)
