Default 1.1.2. No flaming: who's actually working on the unlock?

    Please read first:

***I'm truly looking for genuine information. I'm not just bitching and certainly not interested in stirring up a fight. I am posing a counterpoint to a commonly held belief simply to stimulate fresh information - that's it!***

So anyway, I am just curious: does anyone have any proof that there is an unlock-hack underway for 1.1.2.? I'm sure that SOMEONE is working on it - but who and where?

Understand that I've been reading this board since the very first hacks for the iphone and I've watched the feedback and updates from the hacking community slow to a trickle, not that I can blame them. Look, they've got their phones and hundreds of other people's phones unlocked and running fine - does it really make sense to continuously hack away at Apple's patches? Eventually even the most devoted hacker is gonna ask themselves, what else is out there? And frankly I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Unfortunately there is some evidence to support this fear of mine:

1.) The Dev Team's "Sticky: STATUS - What is going on?" thread is loonnnngg over due for an update. How about a few quick words - maybe just a, "hi!"

2.) The actual Dev Team Wiki hasn't been updated since the notice about the Sec pack and I think that was from last month, right? (Truly asking, I don't know.)

3.) Then there's this site saying:

"The iPhone Dev Team isn't the same team as it was when the iPhone came out back in late June. Many of the programmers have left the team and those remaining members have joined forces with the iPhone Touch Dev Team some time ago."

    and

"The latest iPhone with the new 4.06 bootloader hasn't been cracked because of lack of interest, it's because they don't have the new iPhone to crack."

^^ Which is insane because the denotation thread on this forum funnels between $100-300 a day to the Dev team. Hell, these guys could not only buy iphones, but Apple stock with that kind of consistent income.

So there's something shady going on there..

In conclusion, I'm hopefully wrong. And I mean that seriously: I hope that I am wrong. So if any of you have some links or inside knowledge to share please do!

Again, I don't want to start a flame war or be a dick, I'm just looking for a bit of hard information to back-up the wishes of a couple hundred of us who are stuck with 1.1.2...

For everyone who has already contributed hacks, guides, and general help, you guys are awesome - truly great people who just enjoy helping others.

    Keep it up!

I too am looking for info but if you look a little harder you will find this has been answered already.

The initial unlock was just to make a point that it could be unlocked I guess and lots of developers all over the world wanted to be the first to crack it. Yes I'm sure many of those developers did lose interest once the first solutions were released.

I am also sure that many developers still want to unlock the new phone but you just have to wait like everyone else.

The new OTB v1.1.2 phones were only released on the 9th Nov which was only 12 days ago, give it some time. If you don't wanna wait for a free solution you could always wait until 29th Nov and get an unlocked french iphone.

Also Apple have warned people not to unlock the phone and it was also expected that a FW update would slow things down a little so you shouldn't just expect an unlock to be available. Apple have hundreds of developers all trying to protect Apple's future profits so to think you could undo that sort of man power in such a small period of time is ridiculous.

Sit tight or take the phone back but can people stop posting the same questions it's getting tedious.

i believe netkas. He's part of the DevTeam I think. So, as far as waiting, can we be more specific netkas? My friends and I have donated over $500 to the DevTeam since inception, and all of us would like status information when it becomes available. Thanks.

I want to make it clear: I'm totally happy to wait - I'm just looking for a few signs of life!

Considering the huge amounts of money being donated into the Dev Team's paypal account a few quick words from them would go a long way

Something as simple as, "Hey, we're still on the job."

That's not asking for too much... right?

I think the poster asks a legitimate question.

Somehow it's become 'cool' to tell people to stfu and wait... but nobody really knows if any dev team is working on it or if they ran away with your thousands of dollars in donation money (not unheard of).

So I'm gonna turn the tables on this one, if anyone knows for sure that a dev team is actively working on an unlock solution, please post. Otherwise STFU and wait.

Come on, 1.1.2 came out on the 9th and unlock and jailbreak software was released only hours after that. I'm sure they're working on the new bootloader.

If you're interested in an English guide that works look here:
    http://www.ifoneguide.nl/

    Bootloader 3xx only.

    Angry

    I have to agree
I just bought the phone the other day
and I feel I've been pretty damn patient on an almost $500 investment
Which I'm sure slot of other people can relate with
I also have donated via paypal to the dev team
for the sheer fact that hopefully these guys are still working
here's the kicker that should make all the assholes stfu
if the dev team had been doing this out of the goodness of their hearts then yes I understand some grace is appropriate
but like it was mentioned in this post
these guys are making pretty good money off those who are hacking inept
and to not even grace those that are paying them more than I make in a week
Well I think this post has a lot of merit
