Default 1.1.2 downgrading iphone to unlock as ipod touch

I am very sorry for posting this but I am dumb. I would like to downgrade my new Iphone that has firmware 1.1.2. to 1.1.1. so that it works as an ipod touch. How is this done exactly in details I understand I have to downgrade to 1.1.1. I haven't previously signed on with ROGERS AT&T to activate my phone. I recieved my iphone as a gift for christmas from my girlfriend and i live in Canada. I have the newest firmware and the newest bootloader and all that Jazz I'm pretty sure. My question is if I do this can I in anyway permanently damage or brick my iphone? I want to upgrade the firmware back to 1.1.2. in about 2 months and unlock to use it as a full Iphone when my other contract for another Canadian Cellphone carrier expires. Please don't delete this post and please don't flame I would be very grateful if someone can tell me how this is done and I will contribute to donate money to the team in the near future. Thank you very much SWIFT

    Actually there's a way to
    1- downgrade to 1.1.1
    2- Jailbreak it on 1.1.1
    3- Upgrade to 1.1.2
    4- Jailbreak 1.1.2

as provided in the link by kchito78
This is what I did as well & this will do no harm to your iPhone
