Default 1.1.1 Unlock NOT achieved (was: 1.1.1 Unlock achieved ....... with caveats)

It seems the guys at iPhoneSimFree have achieved an unlock which works with the 1.1.1 firmware update.

At present, it only works with AT&T SIMs and Jailbreak doesn't yet function, so no 3rd party apps yet. I'm amazed at how quickly this happened and it would seem that it won't be very long before a full unlock is achieved that works with all SIMs. I'm betting the Dev Team will do it first!

It is an evil thing, this 1.1.1, it released almost in the same moment as I was unlocking my friends phone, and I am stalled now, he will hate me tomorrow

So you can't unlock a old iphone now? I bought one yesterday and I'm not sure if I should unlock it now. Well by reading the posts I'm guessing the new unlock should be done within a week?

    Thanks dev team :]

OK -- I don't think I'm understanding something here. The folks @ IPSF claim 1.1.1 is unlocked... pardon my English (or Engrish), but isn't the definition of "unlocked" indicate that any SIM can be used?

Or do they mean, they took an unlocked phone, running 1.0.x, and upgraded it to 1.1.1?

I don't think they've achieved anything yet or that they've even updated the software.

They're simply saying that updating to 1.1.1 doesn't brick your IPSF phone.

You still have to use it with AT&T like a regular Apple sold iPhone.

If IPSF truly want to help get a new jailbreak / activator, they should donate to the dev team.

This is how I understand it.

They are saying that iphones unlocked with anysim and upgraded to 1.1.1 now return a special imei which signals an error, an thus even the orig AT&T sim is not working. It can not be activated even with that sim through itunes.

iphones unlocked with IPSF and upgraded to 1.1.1 do not return this error IMEI and so can be activated with the original sim through itunes. When another sim is inserted the error shown is a new one 'SIM Changed connect to itunes' which means you have to activate the phone again.

Once jailbreak and activation is working again the iphone unlocked with IPSF will once again be unlocked.

Default to unlock or not to unlock?

    Hi all,

iPhone noob here. I just got my iphone yesterday and was in the process of unlocking it when I got stalled on a BSD script error. I already upgraded the firmware to 1.02, jailbreaked(?) and activated it, and loaded it up with Installer. That's where I stopped.

Now I read about all these people who have problems because of the new 1.1.1 update.

So my question is: should I continue with the unlocking process (using anySIM) ? or should I just lay low and wait for someone to address this issue with a new release?

I'd really appreciate the advice. Thanks in advance!

If you can, wait a few days before unlocking. Do not upgrade to 1.1.1. Monitor this forum to see how much progress is made.
