Default [1.1.1] AT&T Activated, Anysim but "No Service" problem

in the hopes of illiciting a solution and to possibly help others in the same boat as me...

    i have a 1.1.1 with 4.01.13_g bb and activated on at&t.
i've dropped in an overseas SIM and am seeing both "No Service" and 0-bars with grayed out Carrier selection and a "MismatchedICCID" from iDemocracy.

jailbreaking, and running anysim results in a phone that is usable sans at&t chip (as an ipod), but is still wired to the iccid and imei of my initial sim. seems it has something to do with the at&t tokens i have stored in my Lockdown folder.

in other words, from what i can gather, i'm not really "unlocked". i had left the country with a fully loaded iphone in the hopes of being able to swap in a sim chip and both keep my music with me and access gprs abroad.

if i'm correct tho, there's nothing i can do short of re-flashing and following the pref:/ hack with anysim in order to use another sim chip. of course, then i'd lose all my media that i loaded prior to leaving.

do i just have to bite the bullet and re-flash baseband and firmware with 1.0.2 and/or 1.1.1? or is there some other recourse for me?

Try replacing the lockdownd file, if it was jailbroken as an actived AT&T iPhone it wasn't replaced with the patched version.

Restore your phone, dont activate it thru Att/itunes. Whateva firmware your trying to run ur phone on, when u restore it and itunes tells u, ur phone is rebooting or gives u the error 1015, close itunes before it it connects to the itunes store/activation screen and jailbreak it thru the *#307# method that way, itunes wont have any one sim registered with ur iphone and u can put in any att simcard, then run anysim(insert appropriate version here) and u should get service.

    Easiest solution....

Restore your iPhone to 1.1.1, use your NON AT&T activated SIM and jailbreak it.
(This will replace the lockdownd with a patched version that allows any SIM to be used.)

EDIT: No need to run anySIM again as the unlock survives the 1.1.1 restore.

    Default i figured as much

    thanks for the advice.
i've got a pretty good idea of what i'd need to do if i *do* restore.
my question had more to do with unwiring the iccid and imei of my at&t *without* flashing the firmware (since i'll lose all my media and I can't restore it now since I'm overseas without my mac)

i may try and pull my music off of it and then resync it after it's been unlocked.

if anyone's got a clue as to whether I can avoid re-flashing, i'm all ears

    install oktoprep
    UPDATE to 1.1.2
    jailbreak 1.1.2
    anysim1.2.1u

Just did it with my wifes phone a few weeks ago, only thing I had to replace was her ringtone.
If I would have lost 1 picture or music file she would have...well you get the idea.
