Default 1.1.1 replacement from apple store unlock method

    Hey everybody...

Just got back from apple store... genius bar replaced my broken touchscreen iphone for a new one a (version 1.1.1) with a (04.01.13 modem firmware)... I am trying to unlock but it seems that the replacement phones are already activated to work with ATT. I tried to restore in itunes back to 1.1.1 but I got an error 1604 and had to get out of there using Iphuc.. Now I am back to square one again on the spring board awaiting an ATT sim

    Please help!

You need to do a jailbreak first.
    go to jailbreakme.com
Once it's jailbroken, you can install Anysim and unlock it.
btw, how did u get a replacement for a cracked screen?, and a 1.1.1, boy ur lucky...

ya the router and everything is fine.. I never had trouble connecting my old iphone to the wifi, I think for some reason it just won't let me access the web, and now that I got that 1604 error trying to restore 1.1.1 again, everytime I restart my phone it goes back to the "connect to itunes icon"... what a disaster

you've got to do it as if it is an OTB 1.1.1 iphone.
    1. Make sure you have a SIM-card with PIN turned off, and power on your phone (the supplied AT&T card works fine).
    2. On the activation screen, slide for emergency and dial: *#301# to make the phone call itself. (If the incoming call dialog quickly disappears but it keeps ringing, just dial 0 (remove *#301# first), and it will call itself)
    3. Answer the call, and tap on Hold
    4. Phone will call it self again, tap Decline. You will now be returned to the normal dialer.
    5. Tap on contacts, and tap the + icon to add a new. The only info you are going to add to this contact are two URL's. To add a URL, tap Add new URL. The first URL is prefs followed by a colon: prefs : and the second is jailbreakme.com. Tap Save.
    6. Your contact now has two "web pages" - tap on the first one (prefs: ). This will take you to the settings dialog. The reason you want this, is because you need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, so tap on Wi-Fi, and get connected to a network, and make sure the icon on top of the screen is indicating that you are connected. While you are in the settings dialog, you should also set: General → Auto-Lock → Never.
    7. Now, press the home button, and again, slide for emergency dial 0, Answer the call, Hold and Decline the new call so that you get to the contacts. Tap on your contact (No Name), and this time tap on the other home page, jailbreakme.com
    8. Safari will launch and show you a webpage. Read through the text, before you Install AppSnapp
    9. Phone will return to activation screen, but don't panic, just wait.
    10. Phone should automaticly restart after almost a minute. . If it does not restart withing 2 minutes, click here.
    11. When the phone starts again, it should no longer say slide for emergency, but rather Slide to unlock It means it was successfull! Activation is now bypassed, and phone prepared for software installation! (If you are going to use an AT&T SIM, you won't need to do the next step.)

Thanks brainzito but I'm trying to get the phone to the point where I can get the "activation screen"... The phone was given to me by the apple store to be able to just quickly swap in my att sim card because when I turn the phone on it goes directly to the springboard instead of to the activation screen.. where I want it to go. and when I try dialing the *#301# it tells me to insert sim which I only have a tmobile sim. I then tried restoring the phone hoping that it would be like OTB 1.1.1 and instead I got error 1604.. which I keep getting everytime I try to restore 1.1.1... I tried restoring to 1.0.2 instead but I got a different error trying to do that.

Has anyone that got an exchanged iphone from the genius bar at the apple store been able to unlock?
