A friend bought an iPhone from someone else. it was supposed to be v1.1.1 (week 40) and brand new and he asked me to unlock. When I tried to turn WiFi it was showing 'No WiFi' message.

I tried to downgrade to 1.0.2 in order to fix baseband and upgrade it back to v1.1.1 but every time I downgrade the phone it hangs. I tried a bunch times to downgrade, upgraded back and etc.


IMEI is always correct. When I upgrade to v1.1.1 phone doesn't hangs but the WiFi is grayed out.

Already tried a lot of upgrades, restores and downgrades but was not able to fix WiFi and proceed unlocking.

Now phone is just like I got it: unactivated, locked and no-wifi.


Any idea/advice about how to fix (WiFi) and Unlock this iPhone? Any reply welcome!

I am in the same boat.
Actually yesterday i ran a magnet on it in an attempt to fry it so apple would replace it but that didnt work, but as a side effect wifi worked in 1.1.1 and i could connect to wifi but couldnt browse, restarting made wifi get greyed out again and i tried using the magnet again but with no use.
Today I downgraded to 1.0.2 its frozed so the touch screen doent work but i was able to jailbreak with ibrickr and activate via pacay but now i have an activated phone that has a dead touch screen.

When I downgrade to 1.0.2 and activate it starts frozen so even if I hold power button nothing happens. My only way to turn it off is to reset.

what method are you guys using?

problem is that without WiFi Safari will never work. So we cannot even try to use this methods. So the idea was to downgrade, fix baseband (to try to fix WiFi) and the upgrade again BUT when downgraded phone freezes and hangs.

Try another wifi spot this problem is looks like the step I have freezed before.

Reboot iPhone holding top (power) and home buttons *BUT* release the top button exactly 10 seconds into it
The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes (latest version worked for me on the Mac)
Option+Click restore and select the 1.1.1 firmware ipsw
The phone will restart and error out at the end, this is expected
Shutdown iTunes

Reboot again iPhone holding top (power) and home buttons
start iTunes Option+Click restore and select the 1.0.2 firmware ipsw
The phone will restart and error out at the end, this is expected (1013)
Shutdown iTunes

Launch the latest iNDpendence or Jailbreak the phone using a decrypted 1.0.2 and Activate the phone
