[1.0 OTB US] Updated to 1.1.2 can it be used on o2 in uk/t-mobile in germany
Before I get flamed I have searched and can find no definitive answer.
I have one of the first US iPhones 1.0 OTB if I remember rightly. When updated to 1.1.2 (since firmware is same across countires) will it be possible to purchase an o2 contract and activate it using iTunes? or I suppose using T-mobile in germany?
I know I can unlock using anySIM or IPSF but I would rather do it this way then I dont need to wait for jailbreaking etc before I can update to each software upgrade.
I ask since I have moved to UK and would just like the legitimite o2 contract despite it being overpriced!
Thanks

if you use itunes in UK to do a restore to 1.1.2, yes you can activate it for EU use. But it dosen't mean the phone is Jailbroken. Jailbreak and Activation is different.

Thanks for your reply...
So if I just pop in an O2 SIM and restore it I should get the O2 welcome/tariff selection screen?
Presumably this should also work on 1.1.3 since I intend to purchase an iPhone contract (not actually unlock the phone)
I understand it would be activated but not jailbroken don't worry!

i believe from reading other threads activation is basically the same as US. Since you have 3.9BL, you are safe to try it out.

Yeah, I have one legitimate UK iPhone already and it is the same process.
I just wasn't sure if the US iPhone became able to support the other official carrier SIMs after the 1.1.2 upgrade.
(Since the are running same BB firmware I thought that in theory any US AT+T, German T-Mobile, French Orange, or UK O2 should work in ANY iPhone regardless of it's origin after being updated to 1.1.2)
I know since I have 3.9 I can downgrade BB fairly easily but it is a bit of hassle and if others knew that this wouldn't work I wouldn't do it!
