THIRD - The restore did its thing for about 20 min and at the end I got a error (1012) message. However, when I unplugged the iphone it went to the PLEASE ACTIVATE screen. So I assumed the restore worked.

    Problem here !!
You should put the phone in DFU mode again and restore using firmware 1.1.4 again. What itunes version are you running? How about rebooting you MAC before you do this. This step has to be a clean restore before you can do anything else.

Let's get this part done correctly first before we do anything else.
Ok so the third step is where it went wrong for me. I have restarted the computer and still I get the same error. I am using the most recent version of itunes 7.6. Also I was going to ask you i think i in DUF mode when I get the yellow triangle that says connect to itunes because im still running 1.0.2 . Do you have any suggestions from here?

Let me ask you this. How do you put your phone in DFU mode?

I also received a message from another member, he says:

I am still thinking what happened to this user.

Just one note aside. On a Mac you do not change .zip of the ipsw file. You just leave it as it is. He did this, dont know if it is important.

I think I remember members here having the following Problem on a Mac. They use Safari for downloads. There is one option in Safari's "Preferences->" something like "unpack secure downloads). The Mac then automatically downloads the zip file from Apples Server and unzips it. I remember ppl having had problems the - i guess.

So our friend seems to have unchecked this option (what is a good ideal anyway cause of security). Is the member downloaded the firmware file that looks like a zip file on the Mac and ends with ...ipsw.zip. He should give this one a try. Dont know if this helps, just an idea.
Let me know if this make any sense to you

So, getting in DFU mode is a little tricky because when i turn the iphone on I get the white scrolling text. So to get it in to DFU mode I hold down both the power button and the home button I do this when the phone has the white text running down the screen. I hold it for at 10 second, at this point I get the apple logo on the main screen and I keep holding for another 5 to 7 second an the a Yellow Triangle with an (!) inside it and under that picture it says "please connect to itunes" I believe this is correct because at this point itunes connects with the phone and I get a pop-up saying "itunes had detected you phone is in recovery mode blah blah blah.... I know the real way to put the phone into DFU mode is to release the power button once the apple logo appears on the screen while still holding the home button. If I attempt this method after the apple logo disappears I get the white scrolling text again.

In regards to the other member post.

When I download 1.1.4 it automatically unzips into a folder once download is completed. I simple right click on the file and compress it again. Then I delete the .zip ending leaving only the ispw.

I could try a couple things, first uncheck that box and don't let it unzip at all. Or I can try installing the file without change the .zip ending. Im not sure but is that what the member suggested maybe you can clear that up for me.

    DFU mode:
To put the iPhoene in DFU mode while connected to your computer you have to
    1. hold power + home
    2. in a few sec, red slider appears, continue holding til phone reboot
    3. count to 6
    4. let go power
    5. keep holding home until itunes detect it or if you hear a connection tone (like plugging in a usb device on Windows), let go of home.

Screen should be black all the time beginning at step 3

If itunes say it need to check for "... version on the server..", let it check, after that you will see the restore button. shift-click restore (Option-click on Mac) and select the 1.1.4 FW you downloaded
I'm not sure about using safari on the Mac to download & renaming.
May be you can install firefox on the Mac and download the firmware.

    Hi kamil_canada!
That's been me. I would not rename or re-zip the firmware file. In Safari (menu Safari) open "Settings". On top of the Settings dialog you will se couple tabs, one should be named "General" (first on the left side; I am on a different laguage OS right now). Almost on the bottom of the dialogbox you will see a checkbox saying something like "Open secure files after downloading". UNCHECK this box. After that Safari does not automatically un-zip or unpack files, downloaded from the Internet. thats by the way a good idea to uncheck anyway, cause of security of your Mac.

    The goto
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056
and re-download Firmware 1.1.4 to your Mac. When done you will have a file called
"iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw.zip" that has the icon of a zip file. Leave it as it is.

Start iTunes and try to restore your iPhone to this file via clicking option-restore and selecting the file then.

    Hope that helps,

Exept for using ZiPhone its ok. Use iLiberty+ (Windows) or iNdependence (Mac) to kick the iPhone out of recovery. You should always avoid using ZiPhone. It works for kicking out of recovery but causes major trouble in lots of other cases.

By the way, to fix "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0" is described here in this thred, post #2 ;-)
