I have a 1.0.2 iphone which I purchased already jailbroken, activated and unlocked and have been using it in the UK on the Orange network for 6months or more without any problems whatsoever - I did not get an AT&T or O2 sim card with it

All of a sudden and for no apparent reason the installer app has failed so I cant add or update apps to my iphone In fact installer will not even run it returns me back tot the summerboard!

I have searched high and low on all forums and Iphone related blogs for a solution - hoping I could just reinstall the installer app - but not been successful yet.

So I am hoping I can rely on some expert advice from you guys . . .

It seems that my only option is to restore my unit to a 1.1.4 version via iTunes and then re jailbreak, activate and unlock. I have never done this before and therfore I am a little bit nervous. I have read many threads on here about the process and have a few questions before making the leap of faith - here goes . . .

• Is restore/rejailbreak my only option or can installer app be reinstalled - if so how please?
  
• If restore then which is easiest and most reliable (both pre and post) method to jailbreak - I am on Windows Vista
  
• Can some explain the exact procedure or point me to a good guide/tutorial?
  
• Do I need to re virginize and if so how?
  
• Can I unlock without a AT&T / O2 simcard - I only have Orange simcard
  
• Can I back up all my personal data before restoring - if so how?
  
• Have I missed anything ?

Sorry to be long winded but I would miss my beloved iphone should it turn into a brick !

Installer is now available thru Cydia.

Well i would have helped you to solve your Installer problem, but going to 1.1.4 is a wise decision.

You must virginize your phone before upgrading to 1.1.4.

After upgrading, you can use PwnageTool, iLiberty+, iPlus or iDemocracy, but avoid Ziphone as it brings more problems than it is supposed solve.

Can someone help me with more specific answers to the bullet points in my original post.

BUT...

problem is I need to virginize in the thread above and I cant install virginizer since installer crashes. please help. I now want to move up to 114 from 102 because of this problem.

my installer fixed itself, all is well on 102 like before. yay

Just one minor problem - installer is not working and therefore I'm stuck . . . . how do I virginise without installer working ?

you must have BSD and open ssh installed for it to work, if your installer is not working you can install those using ibrickr

another very clean way to get installer is to use iLiberty+. iLiberty+ works with 1.0.2 to 1.1.4. All you have to do is run iLiberty+, jailbreak is always selected by default, add installer payload and click go for it.
No need to mess around with ibrickr.

yep hats just what i did yesterday i and it worked fine, now im on 1.1.4 from 1.0.2
