[1.0.2] Upgrade to 1.1.4 - Questions/Doubts and Final Solution
Hello,
I'm not sure whether those questions have been answered before, if so - sorry, and point me to where the anwsers are.
I have 1.0.2 (OOB) jailbroken using AppTap and unlocked by anysim 1.0.2. I would like to ask which way is most safe :
- 1.0.2 -> Virginize -> Update to 1.1.4 -> iPlus
- 1.0.2 -> Virginize -> Update to 1.1.4 -> Restore to 1.1.4 -> iPlus
- 1.0.2 -> Virginize -> Restore to 1.1.4 -> iPlus
- 1.0.2 -> Restore to 1.1.4 -> iPlus
Do I need to virginize? I've been told that it doesn't matter, because 1.1.4 firmware rewrites everything anyway, so I won't end with brick after restore/update?
-- UPDATE --
THE FINAL PROCESS IS DESCRIBED HERE - http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...3&postcount=15
-- UPDATE --
How to perform ideal backup? using iTunes is sufficient, or timecapsule app is worth using? Will my backups from 1.0.2 work in 1.1.4?
Can I still have my phone unlocked using iPlus? I have standard 3.9 bootloader out of the box, so I cannot go for FB yet. Will iPlus unlock my phone? Which method it will use (geoipsf?). Will it touch my bootloader at all? Is it stable unlock (not meaning upgrade-resistant because we never know for sure, but just stable, in terms of making calls, restarts etc.)
I think there are still people who are willing to upgrade but want anwsers to those questions, so it would be good to store them in one place maybe? Thanks for any anwser, anyways.

I am 1.1.1 OTB so let shed some light and help. 1 you should restore to 1.1.4, a clean phone is best so it will return to its locked state 2 yes it will unlock your phone,3 it will not touch your bootloader seeing as how you have 3.9bl and not 4.6 last but not least it is stable and safe but in the world of hacking there are not gtees. As I said before tho it is a very stable. Also no back ups unless its of music contacts etc , no non regular apps as 1.1.4 is a whole new ball game

I recommend you to virginize going to 1.1.4 just in case shi*** happens, besides is not a difficult step.
Use iplus, it will not modify your bootloader because you are on stock 3.9, ant it will unlock your phone just fine. now if you don't want to install all the extras that iplus installs, then i recommend you use ziphone, it's faster and cleaner and then you can install whatever you want/need yourself just as easy.
one last thing, DO NOT UPDATE, DO A RESTORE, you will get better results.

regarding your backup i recomend you manually extract the files you want to backup.
Itunes restores has proven to create more problems than it actually fixes.
so you can extract your address book file, calendar file and notes file, i believe those are the more important since i guess you have all you music and videos in you r computer and you can re sync

Thanks for the anwsers, again. I like what iPlus installs, so it is not a problem for me. Could I screw something in iPlus because of doing things wrong? (dfu/restore mode, itunes service, blahblah). Is it easy to perform iPlus jb/act/unlock?
Anyone tried TimeCapsule.app?

not really, the good thing of iplus is that is 100% reversible it can all be solved by a itunes restore with the exception of the bootloader but that can be solved with another software so don't worry.
the entire process is automatic and fast.
never used time capsule so cannot give you my opinion, o prefer to backup manually

As far as I know, none of those versions will work. !!!
If someone has an actual tested version for upgrading 1.0.2 unlocked, that would be great.
1.0.2 -> Virginize -> Restore to 1.1.4 -> iPlus === no service

My co-worker received ahis 8 gig refurb with 1.0.2 software on it. All we did was "restore" to 1.1.4 firmware via itunes and then run iplus 2.0b and it worked like a champ on t-mobile. We didn't virginize and it worked fine.

I too have a refurbished 1.0.2, OTB that I upgraded to 1.1.1 via anysim 1.1 last year.
Is the method above me here my best route too, just restore to 1.1.4 in itunes, and than use iplus 2.0b?
That's it?
Will I use third party software I now have? If I do not have edge, what am I really gaining as the google GPS would be useless in my case...
Cheers,

So, you think revirginizing it is what messed it up?
Any ideas on where to go from here?
