[1.0.2]Trying to decide how to unlock
My brother is with T-Mobile.He wanted to get an iphone so I told him to try to buy one with 1.1.1 He finally bought one on ebay in which the seller said the he was selling a 1.1.1 4GB iphone.Price was fair.So I told him to buy it.He got the phone in 4 days.I told him which guide to use and jailbreak & activate the phone and use it with his T Mobile.
Doing the prefs/jailbreakme.com method he said that it did not work and he got an error saying that he has the wrong version. So I told him to let me do it.Now I have the phone and when I check the version it comes out to be 1.0.2.Emailed the seller and now he is saying that yes it is 1.0.2 and he made a mistake in writing the version. He also says that this phone has never been unlocked and his sister was using it with legit ATT account.I think that he is telling the truth as whatever sim i put in the phone whether Cingular or T Mobile,it keeps saying wrong sim.
This forum is a huge source of information.I have found a lot of different methods to unlock this phone.Just need confirmation/opinions on some of the decisions I have made.
1) Although my brother has tried to jailbreak this phone but I think that I dont need to virginize it as it was never unlocked.Virginization is for those phones only which were unlocked in version 1.0.2.Am I right?
2) I am thinking of unlocking the phone by updating it to 1.1.2 and the using this guide from iclarified to jailbreak/unlock it?Is it the right choice?
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=376
3)Should I update from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 and then to 1.1.2 or should I just update straight to 1.1.2 and use the guide from there?
Any and all opinions are highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Also am thinking about going another route.
From 1.0.2
Upgrade to 1.1.1
Jailbreak/Activate
Oktaprep
Upgrade to 1.1.2
Jailbreak/Activate
Soft update to 1.1.3
Anysim 1.2.1u to get it unlocked.
Seen other posts where it has worked for other people.
Thanks.

My suggestion is to upgrade till 1.1.2, therefore:
(assuming that it has never been unlocked at 1.0.2)
From 1.0.2
Upgrade to 1.1.1
Jailbreak/Activate
Oktaprep
Upgrade to 1.1.2
Jailbreak/Activate
Airplane mode, run AnySim 1.2.1u
Enjoy.

OK guys.I am at 1.1.2 Jailbroken/Activated.
Using Windows XP & iTunes 7.5
So far I did:
Shift + Restore to 1.1.1 as the phone was not activated and iTunes would not let me update so I put the phone in recovery mode and did a restore instead of update.
Jailbreak/Activate using jailbreakme.com.
Install Oktaprep.
Update to 1.1.2.
Jailbreak/Activate.
Now I am in 1.1.2 & the phone is working great with my Cingular sim.
I have decided to go with Anysim 1.2.1u.
Have one question that I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere.
Do I have to run Anysim 1.2.1u every time that I put a different sim in the phone or running once is enough and it does not mater if I change the sim afterwards?
Any suggestions/opinions are much appreciated.
Thanks.

No need to run it. you can sim swap. Best is to uninstall anySIM 1.2.1u so you don't run it again.

Just ran Anysim 1.2.1u in aeroplane mode.
Finished without any problems.
One weird thing is that after installation my phone volume went real low.Could barely hear it ring.Turned it off and back on and the volume was fixed.Don't know why that happened.
Uninstalled Anysim 1.2.1u.
Put my brothers T-mobile sim in the phone and am happy to report that he is now using an unlocked iphone on T-mobile.
Many thanks to hackint0sh,and all the poeple who have made this a source of unlimited information.
U guys rock.
