As i Have mentioned, the phone hangs mainly while on "Slide to Unlock", or at startup. These two are precisely the instances when light sensor of the iPhone is used which auto adjust brightness of the iPhone screen. I thought that maybe that sensor is causing the problem.

So yesterday, in Settings --> Brightness, I set Auto Brightness to off, and then restarted the phone. Till now, the phone has not crashed/freezed even once. It has been working perfectly normally. I left it on overnight, yet it was working at morning. It has been in more than 30 hours of use. I did switch off the phone for an hour or two at morning though.

Please try this and report if it works for you people also. I will again leave my phone on tonight and report if it crashes or not.

EDIT : I have been using it with SIM card since I switched off the Auto-Brightness feature.

However, as I have used only for 30+ hours, I cannot be sure that this solves the issue. It could be a co-incidence that my phone has not hung after changing the Auto Brightness setting.

Did anyone try this out yet? By the way, my phone survived over last night also. I had left it on overnight and was able to get past the "slide to unlock" screen today morning.

    Hi!!!
    That sounds really amazing!!!
I just set the auto-brightness to off and I'll try it.
I'll try to keep it running the whole night, too.
    Would be so nice

Bye bye and big THX for discovering this!

I have attached a pic of my phone which shows that my Phone has been used for 2 hours 29 minutes with 18 hours 38 minutes of standby since the last full charge(yesterday night). This clearly indicates that in the last 18 hours 38 minutes I have never had to hard reboot my phone. My phone has not once crashed since I set auto-brightness to off. The phone has survived over 45 hours without single crash. I am beginning to believe that auto-brightness was causing crash.

Hope it works for you too, Azzo.

    Bye.

I kept it running for about 10 hours in sleep mode..
It used to crash normaly when returning from sleep mode after such a 'long' time BUT it did not!!!!

I'll make the ultimate test now.. I'm going to keep it running the whole night..
It never worked on the next day!! We'll see what I'm reporting tomorrow
    Bye bye.. Azzo

    /edit
It just crashed while putting it out of sleep mode :/
But I did not reboot it after setting the auto-brightness off.
    I'll keep it running overnight..

uhh, my phone's olso stuck at booting, showing me the apple, what's the solution for booting corectly, because i can't turn auto brightness off if the iphone doesn't boot.

have to say that at a moment in the day today the sms icon dissapeard from the desktop..then tried to uninstall some crap that i did not use..i uninstalled everything i did not use from one shot..and when i exited the installer it freezed with the "loading" icon...i waited waited nothing happened and now it's stuck on the apple logo.. :| is this really from auto brightness?
