Guys I have the same problem, after rapidly installing a few apps last night (heavy use), I'm stuck at the apple logo. I went over this entire thread and I decided to restore and then turn auto-brightness off. However when I connect the phone, ITunes wont detect it. the phone doesnt even boot up, just shows the apple logo.

How do I go about restoring it now?

    lol..
Try to press the home & sleep button until the itunes logo and the usb cable appears..
Be careful what firmware you are currently running..
Click shift + restore to choose what firmware you want to install..

If your failure is caused by installing apps the restore should fix it!!

It wont enter any mode at all - it isnt responding except to shut off and then power on again. No matter what I press all I get the is apple logo. No restore mode of DFU mode(power+home for 10 secs then home for 10 secs).

    What can I do?

So, what did you finally do?(Restore, etc) Did your phone boot at last?
Nope, haven't been able to boot it anymore. I tried different restores, but it just shows the apple logo.

-UPDATE- Somehow I was able to have it boot by hooking it up to a XP virtual machine...i disabled autolock and autobrightness and now im going throught the steps to jailbreak it to 1.1.2.

It would be interesting what firmware version you are using..

I don't know.. Maybe it helps if you switch it off for some hours..
Or to keep it running for a while...

    Sorry man.

    I had a 1.1.1 the version was 04.01.13_G if i remember correctly.

Does the version of Itunes matter for DFU mode?

BTW, my screen looked EXACTLY like the screenshot in the first post, I had the Vnotes installed on the second 'page' of the springboard when my IPhone got locked.

    @Aeg0

The version of iTunes does not matter in DFU mode if the version is newer than 7.3.054.
I dont think Vnotes makes any difference.

I would advise you to keep your phone switched off for few hours and then try the following steps to enter restore mode-

When your phone is switched off, press wake button and home button together, when apple logo comes, leave the wake button but keep pressing home button for some time. That will take you into restore mode. Connect to iTunes, restore with whatever firmware you already had on your phone. That should make your phone boot.

Keeping phone switched off could make a difference, although I am not sure.
