I have somewhat of a different problem. I bought a 8 gb iphone which was unlocked by anysim. Version is still 1.0.2. will get to upgrading it to 1.1.1. soon.

I know swapping imei is illegal, so no need to tell me it is so. I also know it is regularly done everywhere for cellphone. It just has not been advanced enough to be done on iphones in my country yet as the iphone is not launched here yet, if it was, I would have just paid for the service and be done with it.

Where I live, you need to register a phone that you bring in from another country and it turns out you can only register one phone per year. I had bought a phone from outside the country back in march and had registered it in my name, and I bought the iphone in december not knowing of this "1 unit per year" rule, so my iphone worked for 3 weeks now it says "no service" and wifi etc is working fine, just not the phone features, checked what was wrong and found out that I could not register it this year, and to register it next year I need to go out of the country once more, load of BS...I am not scheduled to go out of the country until next March and I would rather find a way to use the iphone until then.

There are 2 ways out of this bind: 1. register the iphone in someone elses name, 2. change the imei

I want to do the 2nd option as the friends I could use for the registration process might go out of the country as well this year and if they wanted to get a phone, it would pose the same problem for them since my iphone would be the phone allowed for them for this year.

I already have a very old phone I keep for times that my other phone needs to be serviced etc and I will gladly put its imei on this iphone and keep the other one turned off for good.

Is it possible to swap imei on the iphone?

"Hacking" or rather unlocking the iPhone is not illegal.

if you take a look here, you will see whatI mean. I lve in Turkey, and have bought the unit outside, came here to legally register it in the network, but their registration servers have been down for 4 weeks, god knows when they will be up again, but of course their blacklisting procedure works in a jiffy,so now the phone is blacklisted. there is nothing wrong with the jailbreak or the anysim application . it is an imei lock right now and the only way to get around it without their system coming back on line is to put in an imei that is known to be registered and working in Turkey, which happens to be my other older phone, will gladly sacrifice that phone and turn it off completely until this service gets back on line and when it does, will restore the old imei to the old phone and the new imei to the new phone. but how do you change the imei on the iphone? that is my question.....

My friend, as another Turkish iphone user, let me guide you on changing the imei number. Go ahead with the virginizer tool and use the working imei number to get the correct secpack for yourself from the secpack generator website (no idea if still working or not) and virginise your phone... This is illegal btw..
