[1.0.2 OTB] Stuck in restore
I cant get this phone which belongs to friend of mine to restore. It stopped working one day while using Safari. Each time Safari would launch it would crash right away. Tried to restore 1.02 and keep getting 1604 error. Tried everything to get it out of that error but nothing worked. Even tried using iBrick to restore it but now I have a neon green background color with apple logo.
Can anyone please help recover this device so I can virginize it and update?
Thanks

was it 1.1.1 or 1.0.2?
1.0.2
hold power + home - let reboot til you get to triangle. restore with itunes. shift-click to select 1.0.2 firmware
1.1.1 phone
Use the DFU method:
Connect the iPhone to computer with USB cable. Probably iTunes will start. [You can switch off iTunes if you want to]
The iphone must be switched ON. Don't switch it off (don't do the slide power off)
Hold down the Power and Home buttons until you hear the disconnect tone (that is the two tone sequence indicating that a USB device has disconnected).
Then release the power button and continue holding the home button until you hear a quick pair of connect and disconnect tones, then release the home button. Then start iTunes (if it wasn't running) it will detect an Iphone that needs to be restored. click OK.
Then Press Shift key on the computer while you click on restore. It will show you a window to select the firmware.
Select the 1.1.1 you downloaded before. Let it restore/upgrade.

This is 1.0.2
I have tried over 10 times to restore it and it keeps giving me "Error 1604"
Using WinXP Pro and I keep going in circles with the Yellow Triangle. After few mins it reboots with apple logo and then back to Yellow Triangle.
I want to virginize it so I can do a fresh unlock with a 1.1.1 upgrade. According to him he has not updated the phone to 1.1.1

Also is DFU mode only for 1.1.1 or its in both FW?
I held on to the home key after letting go of pwr and rebooted my pc. After it came up, it showed phone in DFU mode.

yeah, it's 1.0.2 because you see the yellow triangle. If 1.1.1 you see the apple + usb cable picture. try kill ituneshelper.exe and try again.
when you get to yellow triangle, let go and launch itunes.

dtube,
I have tried it many times over and over and still not working. I restore it with iTunes and get 1604 error on any PC. I tried AppInstaller to restore it and it doesnt work. iBrick restore doesn't work. Not sure what else left?
Now its just sitting on the Apple logo and not doing anything.

sounds like you just doubleclick on the firmware file and let it go.
edit: that was for 1.1.1 but try the same method for 1.0.2 - just a heads-up

I'm having the same problem too. Tried all kinds of methods using both Windows and Macs. Still no lucks. Keep getting 1604 when trying to restore with 1.0.2 or 1603 when trying to restore with 1.1.1. I think i will take it back to apple. I hope they won't be able to find out the phone is unlocked.

why do you want to go to 1.0.2? there's no reason to go back, we have everything on the new firmware, just hit restore in itunes
