    -run iliberty
    -check the jailbreak box
    -click on advanced tab
-click on payload available on repo tab
    -select installer
    -click download
-now it should be available under the local tab
    -click go for it.
OK, went all the way up to Step 12 Jailbreak, Activate, get Installer on the 1.1.1 iPhone using iLiberty. Got stuck and "BSD Root: md0, major 2, minor 02" on the phone. Do I take detour 2 iClarified Step 12 now? I don't understand it since it is expecting a an activating screen

    - so you were ok at step 11 ?
    - onto step 12, you tried to jailbreak+activate using iLiberty and you ended up with "bsd root ...." ??

    - Take detour #2. what do you have on the screen now ?

After many times of repeating step 11 and taking detour 2 I finally managed to upgrade to 1.1.4, jailbreak, activate and unlock. Everything works fine again with my Phone on Rogers (Canada).

Many, many thanks for your help and valuable time. You guys are truly wonderful!

I'm glad it worked out for you.
do you have any idea what the problem was? or can you tell me where you had the most difficulty.
    Thanks

Yes, it was a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig sigh of relief. For several months I resisted going to 1.1.4 from corrupt 1.0.2 and thanks to you I have finally made it!!!

First time around when I followed this http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41839 I had phone stuck in recovery mode and going into that "BSD..." thing when trying to activate/jailbreak. Somehow got out of it by restoring to 1.1.1 in DFU.

Then upgraded back to 1.1.4 and started following this because I could not virginize http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42046. Activated and jailbroke fine but didn't know how to put Installer on the phone. With your help I downloaded it and installed. (I think it will be helpful to mention this for noobs like me). Downgraded the baseband fine an restored to 1.1.1 in DFU noproblem.

In here I could neither activate nor jailbreak 1.1.1 with iLiberty+ - stuck in recovery mode as above. Tried about 10 - 12 times including several detour 2s. AppSnapp did nothing on the phone and returned to activate screen instantly. Also tried to use i.unlock.no instead of jailbreakme.com but I never could find the link to tap to jailbreak and gave up.

Finally, after giving up on detour 2, iLiberty+ mysteriously worked. Something I did here after learning from that Installer excercise was to jailbreak/activate first and jailbreak/install instead of trying both at the same time. Whether this had any effect I don't know because even with this method I had to do it several times. From there onwards, it was plain sailing to completing my 8 hour agony at step 20.

To summarize my biggest problem was to activate/jailbreak 1.1.1 after baseband downgrade. I think another area worth of bit more elaborate instructions (again for noobs like me) is finding packages in Installer, especially BSD subsystem 2.1. I know I did every single restore in DFU since the screen was black and verified iniLiberty too. The manual DFU with button press sequence was what worked for me. Tried iLiberty+ several times but it would immediately go into recovery in iTunes after placing DFU.

I used iTunes 7.5.0.22 and iLiberty+ 1.3.0.113 on Windows XP SP2 throughout with my working Rogers SIM in the phone.

In between frustrating attempts I toyed with the ideas of using WinPwn and ZiPhone but decided to stick to your iLiberty+ method. I am sure those soulutions are equally effective as well.

    Many thanks again!

    Thanks for the cheer up!

Sure, more than happy if I can be of help!

Honestly, it's all because of dtube's great help and volkspost's tutorials I was able to do it.

At times I was very frustrated 'cos couldn't get hold of dtube (I know, I know... he was probably helping 1000 other noobs like me). So I tried different steps/things but decided to stick to the two tutorials mentioned. In the end, patience paid off - staying up until 1:30am and then restarting this morning. I don't know why it did not work initially - technically the 1st tutorial should have been good enough.

Anyway, feel free to ask will try my best within my very limited knowledge.

    @whil27,
thank you for your feedback, it is very valuable. Of course, Volkspost and I tried to be as detail as we could but there are so many different scenarios out there so it's not perfect. We will take a look at the tutorial one more time. What we have found is iLiberty failure with bsd: .... occurs on the Mac and not PC on that particular step. We are unable to find an explanation for that.

This is what i will use to VIRGINIZE the iPhone..

How to "Virginize" the iPhone to repair the baseband?

Ignore all long and complex tutorials - I have set up a fully automatic script that will repair the baseband.
This script will work on any baseband version, but will not work on phones with new bootloader (out of the box 1.1.2).
It will not run on 1.1.2 firmware either, you need to downgrade to 1.1.1 or 1.0.x before running.

You would want to virginize if you upgraded to 1.1.1, and have 0049xxx IMEI. Check this in Settings → General → About.
    Virginize instructions:

    1. Set Settings → General → Auto Lock → Never
    2. Start Installer and update it if it asks. Tap on Sources, Edit, and Add http://i.unlock.no/ as a repository.
    3. Make sure you have BSD Subsystem installed. If it's installed it's listed in "Uninstall", if not listed, tap on Install and goto the System category and install it.
    4. Now, install The Virginizer found in the Unlocking Tools category. This will take almost 5-10 minutes to complete. i had a...Incorrect Sim... error message (means phone is now locked)
your good to go with DFU Mode in Iliberty. Now in Iliberty you can upgrade to 1.1.4, use 7.6.2.9 iTunes or 2.0 use 7.7 iTunes
    5. When done, restore your phone to get 1.1.1 firmware reinstalled (this is not necessary if you are going to upgrade to 1.1.2)
    6. When phone has been restored, you can Activate and unlock as normal.

    Here we go...

You are most welcome! Yes, I know and appreciate so much the efforts you both have made towards helping folks like me. Its' already long and detailed. I thought of documenting what happened to me in case you are able to enhance those details a bit more.

Funny, that iLiberty BSD failures are on Mac and it happened to me on Win XP.
