Default [1.0.2 to 1.1.4] Itunes will not restore phone stuck in DFU Mode

Hey guys i followed the instructions in this thread to update my iphone. everything was going fine till i put the phone in DFU mode so i could then restore the phone using the 1.1.4 firmware. Itunes then hangs @ "Preparing Iphone for restore" and then i receive the following error : The iphone "Iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1601) .I am completely clueless as how to proceed and to further this sick feeling that i may have just bricked my phone; my google searches tell me that once a phone has entered dfu mode theres no coming back till it restores. great. many many many thanks in advance for ANY sliver of good news.

    You need to be specific.
What did you do before you restoring to 1.1.4?
Did you unlock your phone on 1.0.2 using old anysim?
    Have you revirginize your iphone?

For error 1601, you need to uninstall itunes and apple mobile devices. Then reinstall itunes, it will get rid of 1601 error.

my phone was unlocked on 1.0.2 using i think it was called unlock.pxl or something like taht i got through ibrick. before restoring to 1.1.4 i installed installer to virginize the phone. did that without any probs. i then downloaded the 1.1.4 firmware from http://iphone.unlock.no/#restore-firmware-files . i then put my phone in dfu mode to force a restore. itunes then told me to restore my phone before it could be used again. i then shift clicked the restore button, located the firmware that i downloaded and that brings me to that 1601 error. i am using the latest ver of itunes also. i was able to get the phone outta dfu mode by holding the power and home key so atleast i dun feel like throwing up anymore, but that still leaves me with an unlocked 1.0.2 phone. how should i proceed?

further iinvestigation would of showed showed that dfu mode is used to downgrade a phone. i shift clicked the upgrade button, located the 1.1.4 firmware and updated my phone. that went fine. once that was finished i used iliberty to jailbreak, activate and unlock. problem solved.

For 1.1.4, you might want to use 7.6 for restoring.
    DFU doesn't mean for downgrading.

Anyway, glad you make it works!
