I'm having a different issue than you guys. i can get the commcenter to stop, i just can't get the new firmware to go on, bbupdater runs about 20 times then complains about a FLS error and checksum mismatch.

    anyone got that before?

    error could not dowload fls

    checksum expected xxx is xxx

    or somethign like that?
hey.. i got the checksum error too... but with EEP .. not FLS
since it failed with EEP... it doesn't try FLS

    STEP I: Restore to 1.0.2

After downgrading/restoring to 1.0.2, you'll receive the 1012 error in iTunes, that's normal. The iPhone is stuck at the "Please connect to iTunes" screen, the yellow triangle.

There are two possibilties to kick it to the Activation screen, either AppTapp or iNdependence:
    1. quit iTunes
    2. start the AppTapp Auto-Installer
    or
    2. start iNdependence

AppTapp will throw an error but that's ok. At the same time, your iPhone shows the Activation screen.

    _____________

    STEP II: Jailbreak with iNdepencence

    Precondition: kill iTunesHelper in ActivityMonitor!

    1. start iNdependence (i used 1.2.1, but any version should be ok)
    2. choose the second tab "Jailbreak"
    3. push "Perform Jailbreak" and point to the unzipped 1.0.2 firmware folder

Note: If iNdependence won't start jailbreaking or throws an error (i.e. pairing issue), do the following:
    1. quit iNdependence (Apple+Q)
    2. start iTunes
    3. wait until iTunes recognized the iPhone
    4. quit iTunes and try again to Jailbreak in iNdependence.

Now you got a jailbroken 1.0.2 phone which still shows the activation screen.
    _____________

    STEP III: Activate using iActivator

I was not able to activate my iPhone with iNdependence or iBrickr. iNdependence just complained about the missing ICCID (because it was not able to get it from the card as the baseband modem is crashed!). iBrickr was not able to activate either. So I used the last version of iActivator (1.1.4).

    1. start iActivator 1.1.4
    2. push the "Put PEM file" button
    3. push the "Generate Activation" button
    4. put in the ICCID and IMEI of your iPhone (you find it on the box/package of your iPhone)
    5. Save this activation plist file i.e. on the desktop, give it any name you like
    6. Push the "Activate iPhone" button and point to the file you created in step 5!

Note: If you get an error message with some weird numbers in 6., just quit iActivator, start it again and try once more only point 6 "Activate iPhone". It should work now.
    before you did all these..
do you remember whether you can any modem version when you run bbupdater -v??
mine doesn't show modem version.. even after restore with itunes.. so my modem firmware is really gone

i try to follow your steps.. but it doesn't fix it

I had identical problem to you - new 1.1.1 no wifi, imei etc etc - was completely lost - even had it up on ebay for sale (as broken) as I'd given up hope - then I found this thread and followed the instructions to the letter and ALL fine:

    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13255

    hope this helps.

    3. install BSD and Mobile-Terminal with iBrickr (use iBrickr! get a PC just for that case, it's worth it ). Both Mobile Terminal Versions in iBrickr 0.9.1 work!
    4. copy ieraser, bbupdater and the two firmware files with iBrickr to /usr/bin
    5. start Mobile-Terminal on iPhone
-> Mobile Terminal might be slow as long as CommCenter is running. Just type a little slower.
    6. cd /usr/bin [Return]
    7. chmod 755 ieraser [Return]
    8. chmod 755 bbupdater [Return]
    9. delete the CommCenter with command

    10. reboot the iPhone (push Standby for 3 seconds, than slide to power off!)
    11. start iPhone, open Mobile Terminal, cd to /usr/bin
    12. bbupdater -v [ENTER]
The response of the terminal is like:

-> could not ping the baseband as it's empty/corrupt! This is normal I guess.
    13. ieraser [Return]
-> ieraser should start running and you get quite a couple of output. Wait until the end!
    14. bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls [ENTER]
-> takes about 2-3 minutes. You should get no error at the end.
    15. bbupdater -v [Return]
-> now your baseband is pingable and you should receive this answer:
I go this far but my firmware: DEV ICE MDEM shows 04.01.13_G .... not 03.14.08_G I tried to restore 1.0.2 many times but with no success

    16. you're done! copy back the CommCenter or what I had to do: Do the 10sec/10sec trick to get the iphone in restore mode and restore to 1.0.2
This (combined with AlmeidaCTU's zipfile; thank you so much) worked like a charm for me recovering from a 1.1.1 upgrade disaster. I'm back to 1.02 with correct IMEI, ICCID, and Wi-Fi info. I do have a question though; is this now a virgin phone, having had the baseband flashed and firmware restored? I haven't tried to unlock with anySIM yet.

I have followed all the steps with out any issues, but once I get to to point of running ieraser it always results in "Waiting for data..."

I've tried replacing secpack many times and th .eep and .fls files. I'm starting to believe this phone will never work again with out replacing the comm board.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I'm completely stumped and have tried everything.
