i just receive my iphone. the firmware version is 1.0.1 I would like to unlock it and i don't know how to update it to 1.0.2 since iTunes wont let me go further than the activation process...

Download the 1.0.2 firmware file. Then when you try to restore it, hold shift on your windows. Select your 1.0.2 then upgrade.

but i am on a mac..

and i don't see where to click to restore it. i juste have a screen with the activation process and if i cancels it disconnects my phone..

can i activate it using independence while still on 1.0.1 and then restore using itunes ?

Just remove all those [-] in the name above, download it and follow the steps.
You dont have to do step 1-3 just start at step 4 (and of course connect your iphone to the docking station). All the files you need is in this folder, you dont have to download any other files to unlock+activate. Just follow the steps as described in README and off you go. Download the latest iTunes.
You can leave out step 20 also.
