Default [1.0.1 OTB] Refurbished > how to unlock it ?

    Hello,

I'm a total Hacktivation & iPhone noob. I was hoping someone out there would read this post and tell me what to do...

I am a long time ATT user, I already have a working phone/SIM card & phone plan etc.

I just got my 8g iPhone refurb in the mail
(the $249 phone that was on sale online last week)

I turned the iPhone on and it was already activated.
(Slide to unlock brought me to the home screen. I have access to every feature just no phone service)

The firmware is currently 1.0.1 and the boot loader is 3.9

All I want to do is put the SIM card from my current ATT phone (it's 3g and blue just like the SIM that came with my iPhone) into the iphone so i can make calls, and I want to jailbrake the iPhone so i can install 3rd party apps.

My phone plan already has unlimited MEdia NET and unlimited Text Messages, and I am off contract so I dont want to use one of the iPhone plans.

Should I plug the iPhone into iTunes and upgrade my firmware to 1.1.4 and run Ziphone?

Upgrade to 1.1.4 and run iplus instead trust me, also welcome. You can get iplus from the iplus sticky or go to iclarified.com and search iplus

Thanks for the speedy response and the help tips!

After a few screw ups and a lot of reading, I managed to get firmware 1.1.4 onto my iPhone. I successfully ran iPlus2.0b and everything is working great... except i can't make any phone calls.

WiFi, youtube, installer, even itunes, everything is working just fine, but I can't connect to AT&T and make calls, or see the contact list thats on my sim card. Basically the iPhone is just not reading my SIM.

My SIM card still works when i put into my old phone, so its not that... is there a program or maybe a function of iPlus2.0b that I am unaware of that would fix this problem?

    Thanks!

Wow you respond so fast... it's like your a ninja or something!!

Unfortunately, reseting the phone has no effect. I am still unable to read the sim card.

    [for future reference for other users, i neglected to type: iplus -u in the command line the first time I ran iplus2.0b I simply ran the iplus.bat script from windows...}

    Default Two things

[SORRY, MISSED YOUR FINAL COMMENT, but I guess Ill leave this for posterity]

I just got a refurb myself, and I just went through the whole process, but with T-Mobile.

    A) Do NOT use ZiPhone for ANYTHING -- it is not necessary and has the capacity to do harm to your phone. iPlus does everything you need.

    B) You will never see your contacts from the sim card -- fortunately or unfortunately, that's not how iPhone workds. I imported mine from my sim into outlook with a tool that took them off my old phone, but I would just recommend typing them in.

Also, I _highly_ reccomend "funambol" -- it lets you sync your contacts with a server. You have to download their software from installer.app after you run iPlus.

Anyway, as for steps, go here (http://www.hackthatphone.com/)
    1. download 1.1.4 firmware from hackthatiphone link
    2. plug in iphone and hit shift+restore; chose downloaded 1.1.4 firmware
    3. run "iplus -u" from command line (more detailed instruction ions on hackthatiphone)
    4. make sure your att sim card is in
4.a if your phone/EDGE doesn't work, call ATT. T-Mobile had a whole dept. devoted to helping people use iPhones with their service; I can only imagine ATT does too.

    Best
