Default "upgrading" from ios 6.1 to 6.1

Hi there. I recently jailbroke my iphone 4. I have installed a lot of tweaks, perhaps too many. My phone has slowed down and appears to be more bugg. I would like to start from scratch, and just install the tweaks I need. Which is really just "clips".

Here is the situation. My iphone is currently updated to ios 6.1. I have used a Cydia tweak to save my shsh blobs, and mailed them to myself (after the jailbreak). I have no wish to upgrade, just to restore my phone to 6.1. I have tried tinyumbrella, and I just can't make it work. I am not sure if I have understood the tutorials correctly, or if it is just not possible.
Can anyone clarify for me. Thx in advance. P

    1) Run TinyUmbrella
    2) Point it at your .SHSH files (or tell it to download all of the available ones from Cydia)
    3) Click the "Start TSS Server" button
    4) Open iTunes, hold shift and click the restore button.
    5) Point to the iOS 6.1 .IPSW

The phone should restore iOS 6.1 and you should not have any trouble.

It sounds like what you wanted to do was just reset your phone to factory settings, then start over with whatever tweaks? Is resetting done differently after a jailbreak?

Never erase all content and settings on a jailbroken phone, it will wipe the OS and leave the phone in an unusable/unbootable state and the phone will have to be restored in order to be used. On the iPhone 4S and newer, this would block the jailbreak as SHSH cannot be used to downgrade.

In this case, since OP has SHSH for the version of iOS they want to restore to and they're using an iPhone4, they could use the SHSH after wiping to restore, but there is no reason to do so. A simple restore with the TSS server running will allow the restore back to 6.1 and reset the phone to factory defaults without taking the hour or so to completely wipe. Additionally, a failed restore will likely leave the phone in a running state, vs. a failed erase all content and settings, which will leave the phone a brick until it is restored again.

Yikes! That sounds scary. How does one know what to do to avoid causing the phone to brick? Does it have a choice to keep settings and content when doing that? I have a lot to learn.
