How can I upgrade iphone 3G 3.1.2 to IOS 6
I read every other posts but couldn't find a secure answer, yet.
Is there a possibility to upgrade my jailbreak iphone 3G to any higher version other than 3.1.2 such as ios 6?
I've my iphone locked and i jailbreak ed it using blackra1n from 2 years ago and i didn't update it before until now. I tried yesterday to upgrade it to ios 5.1.1 with custom 5.1.1 ispw using redsnow but i always stuck in 3194 error from itunes
I'd appreciate your detail answers to make the upgrade and jailbreak.

You can upgrade your device with the help of iTunes.

You have a lot to learn...
1. google "SHSH Blobs Faq" . Once you read it, you will learn that you can only install firmware for which either
A) you have saved SHSH blobs (cydia had mine up to ios 4.2)...
b) Apple (itunes connects to apple site while you do a restore operation) still allows you to install (still signs that ios). Problem is ...Apple only allows you to install the latest (as of right now ios6).
The way it to install any firmware is to use iTunes and press shift key while clicking restore button...and select the ipsw file (that contains the ios).
Next, iTunes connects to apple to obtain authorization...If apple still signs the ios you're trying to install, then apple sends back SHSH needed to complete the firmware upload to your phone. But again they only sign the latest ... and 1 extra day after a new ios is released, the previous one will not be signed anymore... which means that if you did not get the shsh signature (from apple) for that ios, you can NEVER install it.
As far as upgrade/downgrade as long as you have shsh you can install any ios... meaning you can upgrade or downgrade ...to any ios... and from any ios ... It's just a matter of itunes letting you upload the file (needs that shsh signiture).
That doesn't mean you should upgrade to any before doing research. Why? Because certain upgrades modify your baseband. In order to maintain your ability to unlock the phone you have to make sure that you preserve your baseband (mine still has 5.11.07 and yours probably has that too).
Using tools like snowbreeze you can create a custom ipsw that maintains your baseband while changing ios.
As far as jailbreak - as of now, Oct 10, 2012 - ios 6 has only a thetered jailbreak... and it's not worth even trying it if you want cydia on it - you can't have it yet.
As far as what people say the best for 3gs is ios 4.1 or 4.2
And if you, like me, have been using cydia, then cydia has your shsh blobs for those ios's and you will be able to load them to your iphone.
The trick is to make an entry in your windows "hosts" file , so that when itunes asks apple servers for shsh sig (which apple won't give it, since they don't sign anything at the moment except ios6), then itunes will be tricked into thinking that the ip of cydia is the ip of gs.apple.com . It's a dns redirect... and it works. Instead of apple, cydia will provide the shsh to your itunes. To do this delete everything in your host file and enter one line:
This will make your windows dns subsystem, translate gs.apple.com to the ip of cydia, and itunes will connect to cydia, when it requests shsh for a particular ios you're trying to install.
That's how you get to install any past ios - only if you have shsh blobs.
Hope this clears some things for you. But there is much more for you to learn, if you're like me and haven't been keeping current.
to check if you successfully applied the hosts file trick, open a command prompt and type:
and see what ip your windows translates gs.apple.com to.
Should be what you pointed it to (220.127.116.11)
If it's something like 17. .... ... ... -then you did something wrong in your hosts file - (thats the real ip of gs.apple.com and your itunes won't get any shsh from there except if you're updating to ios6)
Or maybe your windows is screwed up and not appying the hosts file ip/name translations ... try enter in a command prompt:
ipconfig /flush dns
that will clear your dns cache in windows...
