In retrospect...

If you need jailbreak (ability to run unsigned apps), then there is a jailbreak for 3gs, for any past IOS.

IF you need unlock (ability to use any service providers) and want to shell out $15-20 ... google IMEI unlock... This method of unlock of 3gs phones is a permanent unlock (similar to factory unlock)... regardless of IOS version. If you don't want to spend any money, your ability to unlock (with ultrasnow) depends on what baseband you have. You have to be careful here because unlike ios downgrades, you can't always downgrade from one baseband to another... so use tools like snowbreeze to preserve baseband.

I think pinakamataas na version na pwede sa 3G is 4.2.1 na lang same as sa 2G 3.12 lang kasi wala na support ang apple sa firmware after that version.

Sure!Even iOs6 is running on the 3GS

Use 'sn0w breez' but only tethered version available of it...

iPhone 3gs is not that much compatible with iOS 6, so I would like to suggest you to go with iOS 5.0...
