Should I upgrade to iso 5 from an unlockable 4.3.5?
I have a 3gs 4.3.5 with an baseband that I have been told in not unlockable. Would I be better off upgrading to 5.0? Would the change of having my iphone unlocked with 5.0 be better than the current 4.3.5?
iOS 5 is a fairly large change from iOS 4 and other previous iterations. If you rely on an unlock for phone service, it's recommended that you stay on an unlockable baseband -- but since 4.3.5 has a baseband that can't be software unlocked, you're already pretty much in trouble. I don't recommend upgrading to iOS5 unless you block the baseband update while doing it. Even if you can't unlock now, it's possible that in the future an unlock will be determined for the baseband used in 4.3.4/4.3.5 -- and if you upgraded to iOS 5, you may not be able to use it.
Worst case, they come out with a soft unlock for the iOS 5 baseband at a later date and you can safely upgrade and unlock.
Pretty much first rule of jailbreaking and unlocking is never to upgrade to a new iOS until it is jailbroken and (if you need an unlock) unlocked.
