Can running custom ramdisk brick the phone?
I'm following examples from this book named "Hacking and Securing iOS Applications" by Jonathan Zdziarski. One example shows booting iPhone using custom ramdisk. Apparently one person tried it and ended up bricking his phone (see Unconfirmed Errata | O'Reilly Media Hacking and Securing iOS Applications and search for 'Page 50'). Can someone guide if this is possible? Following are details of what I have got.
- iOS version 5.1.1 (jailbroken)
- iPhone 4S
- Jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.15b3
I have prepared the ramdisk successfully. I just need to browse into redsn0w.app directory and run following command:
$ ./redsn0w -r /path/to/ramdisk.dmg
Given that I'm a novice in this area, I'm not sure if it is worth it. Can someone please guide?
