Basic concept question
Please pardon my ignorance, but after reading several tutorials on jailbreaking and unlocking, I have a basic question:
Let's suppose several months ago I bought a brand new, factory unlocked iPhone4 and a brand new iPhone 4S, and that they are still unused, in their original packaging.
Today, I decide to open the boxes and start using them. Probably, the iPhone 4 has FW 4.x and the iPhone 4S has 5.0. Given the fact that the latest FW is 5.1, would I be able to upgrade them to 5.01 via pwnage and a FW downloaded from the net, and then jailbreak them? I would assume the upgrade to 5.01 would not be possible since the SHSH window for 5.01 is probably already closed, but just wanted to make sure I understood the concept well.
Thanks for reading!

The SHSH window for 5.0.1 is still open, but it likely won't be in about a week. If you want to do it, you should do it now. Past that, I believe the 4S comes with 5.0 or 5.0.1 already anyways, I don't believe it ever came with iOS 4.x.
The preceding forum post has been brought to you by the letter "N" and the number 42.
iPhone 4, 32GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n | SHSH: 4.0 - 6.1.2)
iPad 2 3G, 64GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n | SHSH: 4.3 & 4.3.3 - 6.1)

Just continuing with the exercise, what if it were an iphone 4 with 4.3? I guess the iPhone 4 does not check for SHSH?
