Default 2005 Error while updating to ios 5

I am trying to update my iPhone 4 with older baseband and keep getting 2005 error from itunes, everything i find online mentions usb/cable/hubs and i have tried 3 cables all 6 usb ports removed everything else from the usb, cept the bluetooth keyboard.
I am of course trying to keep my old baseband and using tinyumbrella to run tss servers, and used sn0wbreeze to create a custiom ispw.
I am on a PC but will try a friends mac in a hour or two to see if it helps..
    Any new ideas?
    thanx

it is JB and unlocked if it matters...

i am in the same boat, i am on untethered 4.3.3 jailbreak. I created a custom ios 5 ipsw with Sn0wbreeze and was getting 3149 error. I then tried with Tss Server running using Tinyumbrella and started to get 2005 error. I have 4 Iphones and 2 ipads so i have tried all the cables I have.
I read that it is something to do with iTunes 10.5.1 not allowing custom firmware and to uninstall Itunes, Bonjour, Apple mobile device, Apple Application Support, Apple Software update and Quicktime. Then install I tunes 10.4.1 and then try. That did not work either as that version will allow updates to ios 5.

    So what is the solution?
It most definitely not the cable.

To restore a version of iOS that Apple is not signing, you must have a locally cached copy of your SHSH (you can obtain this with TinyUmbrella if your SHSH are stored on file with Cydia), and TinyUmbrella must be running as a TSS Server to intercept the request that iTunes makes. iTunes 10.5.1 has no problem restoring custom firmware, so there is no need to uninstall everything.

Use TinyUmbrella to see what SHSH you can save locally. Once you have the SHSH saved, download the corresponding .ipsw for that version. You can then use PwnageTool or redsn0w (depending on what version of iOS you want to restore to) in order to create a custom firmware and (if necessary) put your device into pwned DFU mode for the restore. Then use iTunes to restore the firmware back to your device.

Without an SHSH however, you will not be able to restore anything other than the most current of iOS revisions (which at the time of this writing, is 5.0.1). Though you won't need an SHSH for iOS 5.0.1, I believe you'll still need to be in Pwned DFU mode in order to restore the custom firmware.

Error 2005 usually does indicate either a problem with the USB port on the computer, USB drivers, the USB cable, etc. It can also be triggered when restoring custom firmware while not in recovery or DFU mode, but that is not always the case.

What SHSH blobs can you save in TinyUmbrella?

Indeed. Having a line in the hosts file that points to gs.apple.com will stop restores from succeeding at this point, and is something that a lot of people who have been in the jailbreaking scene for a few years may have hanging around that they've forgotten about. If you're getting the -2005 error, make sure your hosts file does NOT have any lines to gs.apple.com, and if it DOES, either comment them out (put a # in front of the line) or delete the line entirely.

It's not recommended to delete the entire hosts file, as some Windows services rely on the loopback declaration in that file to function. Admittedly, not very many any more, but it's cleaner just to remove any line that points to gs.apple.com as the hosts file may contain other entries that you wouldn't want to delete.
