Your advise on a strange iOS 4.3.5 after previous 5.0.1 update then restore
Hi experts,
I wanted to ask for your advise:
I bought an iPhone 4 which was restored to 4.3.5 with baseband 4.10.01. My plan was to unlock using Gevey and wait for the untethered + unlock of iOS 5.
After loading it in TinyUmbrella the only saved SHSH i received on the screen is "5.0.1 (9A405) .. ".
Again - the phone "About" screen claims 4.3.5 with baseband 4.10.01 - i checked with the previous owner and he did upgrade to 5.0.1 before wiping the phone to sell it to me.
I jailbroke tethered using Redsnow and tried Gevey - which didnt work (I assume because of the 5.0.1 past).
Now I am faced with a choice:
1. Upgrade to 5.0.1 using iTunes and sell the phone
2. Wait for hopefully an unlock of the 4.10.01 baseband (and hope that the 5.0.1 past wouldnt cause troubles with the future unlock)
3. anything else ?
I love the Iphone 4 (arent we all) and not sure what I should do. What would you recommend ?
Thanks in advanced !!!

You're correct in your assumptions. Having upgraded the phone to 5.0.1, you are now on a baseband that is not soft-unlockable with ultrasn0w, nor is it unlockable with Gevey SIM or Turbo SIM adapters. Your only real choice is to wait for another unlock or sell the device... Sorry to confirm what you already knew as bad news...

Thanks n1ckn4m3. The thing is, my phone shows (in the "About" menu) that I am on 4.10.01 baseband (and 4.3.5 iOS version). So it seems the baseband was not upgraded ?

Ah, touche, I neglected to check the baseband version you mentioned in your post and just assumed you had the 5.0.1 baseband. Since the iPhone 4 uses an SHSH-like baseband upgrade and downgrade system (though the tickets are uniquely generated at phone boot, so SHSH saving is not possible for this purpose), it's possible to downgrade the iPhone 4's baseband to another baseband that Apple is presently signing -- my guess is the person was quick enough to downgrade back that they were able to downgrade the baseband as well. The good news is that the 04.10.01 baseband IS susceptible to the Gevey SIM and Turbo SIM exploits, but the bad news is that iOS 5 itself blocks these beyond just the baseband... You could get a temporary solution at best by usingthe Gevey SIM, but soon enough most apps will likely require iOS 5 and if you're not running it ...

Thanks again. Thing is, I tried already 2 different Gevey's (Ultra and Pro) and neither worked
. Maybe its because I jailbroke it tethered ? I wasnt sure.. Any ideas ?
Thanks

I hate to say I don't know altogether TOO much about the Gevey SIM solution, but I don't believe that a tethered vs. untethered jailbreak would have any impact on whether or not the Gevey SIM worked. You may want to send a support request to the vendor you got it from for additional troubleshooting?
