    Question upgrading 3G 3.1.3 to iOS4

I have a jailbroken, unlocked 3G running 3.1.3 and want to update to iOS4.
My SHSH files are backed up in Cydia.
I was wondering if I will loose all my apps though.
Also, what's the best procedure to update and jailbreak/unlock again?
Thanks in advance for any help & recommendations.

What unlock are you using on 3.1.3? blacksn0w or ultrasn0w?

Simplest way - let iTunes update you to 4.0.1 then jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.5-b5 redsn0w 0.9.5 BETA [iPhone Dev Team]

You will need to reinstall all Cydia apps. However legitimately purchased Apple Appstore apps will remain. Anything you purchased through Cydia can be reinstalled for free when you login with the same account you originally used to purchase.

This approach risks system instability and bad battery life.

Better approach is to restore to 4.0 or 4.0.1 - (preferably with Pwnagetool custom ipsw (mac only - 4.0 only))
If you restore with original apple IPSW (ie no pwnagetool) then you need to jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.5b5. I would recommend setting your iPhone up as new - this gives best performance.

Either way - unlock with ultrasn0w

Also, with all the reports of slowness of 3G iphones running iOS 4.0 - maybe you should just stay with iOS 3.1.3 for now. Reports are clean restore, set up iPhone as new and turning off spotlight helps a lot - but the 3G is still quite slow on iOS 4.0
