Default Upgraded to 4.2.1 and lost synch ability and password

I recently upgraded to 4.2.1 on a 3G, but missed the fine print about what operating system it was compatible with (10.5). The computer I have my music stored on is running 10.4 and I really have no desire to upgrade it. So no synch= no music on the 3G= no ipod function. Is there any way around this?
Also would upgrading from 3.x to 4.2.1 reset the phone's password to a default? Either that, or I have forgotten it. Either way is there anything I can do to set it to something more memorable?
    Thanks in advance...

As you have a 3G iPhone, you can always downgrade to iOS 3.1.3 again (you won't be able to downgrade the baseband though)
The last version to support 10.4 was 9.2.1.5, you might even try to downgrade to iOS 4.0 or 4.0.2 (as they are supported by iTunes 9.2.1.5) however iOS 4.0.x ran very poorly on the 3G iPhone.

Once you downgrade, you should be able to restore from the iTunes backup of your iPhone that should be on your 10.4 machine. This means you will only lose the data you had changed on the iPhone after you upgraded to 4.2.1

When I restore my phone and then restore from iTunes backup, I have to choose a new passcode. I rarely use the upgrade feature so I can't recall if that keeps the passcode (probably does) (it is generally best to restore via custom IPSW, not upgrade via original IPSW)
