Default Unlocking iOS 4.1 with baseband 02.11.07

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 3G that was running iOS 2.1 with baseband 02.11.07 (yes, I know, I haven't updated in a LONG time).
I've installed a jailbroken version of iOS 4.1, making sure not to upgrade my baseband, and tried to unlock with ultrasn0w. The unlock didn't succeed and I think this has to do with the fact that my baseband is so old.

Is there any way to make this work?
I've tried jailbreaking with both sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 and with PwnageTool.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes there is a straightforward solution.

Downgrade to 3.0 stock apple ipsw. This will upgrade your baseband to 3.0 level - the oldest non-beta baseband that works with 4.1 (it is the combination I run)

    Jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2

Use the same method to go back to 4.1 without upgrading baseband. This is I assume custom ipsw.

    Thanks for the reply Olethros!

How can I downgrade to a 3.0 firmware? (I don't have any SHSH blobs stored in Cydia because I upgraded directly from 2.1 to 4.1).

I tried using redsn0w 0.9.2 without first installing the stock 3.1.2 firmware, but it didn't work.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

3G doesn't have a shsh check in hardware like the 3GS and newer does.

The SHSH check added with iOS 4.0 for the 3G is handled in software and can be bypassed.

To summarise, you don't need a shsh to restore a 3G iPhone iOS 3.x or 2.x

Dont restore to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 - my experience is the baseband that shipped with 3.0 and 3.0.1 is the most stable.

Redsn0w 0.9.2 supports both 3.0.x and 3.1.x - if you want to jailbreak 3.0.x you need to give redsn0w a 3.0 ipsw and the phone needs to be running 3.0 or 3.0.1

    It worked!

I installed a regular 3.1.2 firmware (using a regular restore in iTunes, no DFU mode or anything). Then I performed a jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2. This brought me to a working 3.1.2 version with a 05.11.07 baseband.

Then I used sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 to create a custom 4.1 ipsw and loaded it in DFU mode (using iREB to bypass restore errors).

Now the unlock with ultrasn0w works perfectly!

    Thanks!!

Glad to hear it worked... As I said I would have recommended 4.26.08 baseband over 5.11.07 but they both work with ultrasn0w - so it's no big deal.

    how's 4.1 running on your 3G any slow/lag?

I just downgraded from 4.0.2 to 3.1.3 just because the phone kept getting slower and slower.

    just looking for some feedback.

It's definitely slower than 2.1, but it's not extremely slow.
Though I must admit that I don't have a lot of apps running at the same time, so that probably helps.
