Unlocked iPhone stucked carrier (Operator Bundle)
Hey guys, i'm tired of doing researchs by myself, then i decide to come here and and ask you help :/
I have an iPhone 3GS (4.3.3 8J2 - 05.16.02), that was unlocked after software update on iTunes (i'm from Brazil).
After this i did Jailbreak, but there my problem started.
When i insert a SIM from the original carrier (Oi) my iphone works fine. But when I try a SIM from a different carrier, i get the No Service status.
One interesting point with the SIM from the carrier TIM, is that if i turn on the Data Network, i can access and surf web without problems! Even surfing the web, the status bar display the carrier name, but with no bars of signal.
After a lot of searching, i discovered the symlinks "Operator Bundle" and "Carrier Bundle" inside iPhone system, and with some tests, i realized that my Operator Bundle is stucked on the old carrier (oi), instead of changing to the new (TIM) when i switch the SIM
I tried to switch the Operator Bundle symlink by myself, but it didnt work.
I tried to use Carrier Reset Fix on Cydia too, but again, it didnt work.
So, i'm with hope that anyone knows this problem and can help me! Any questions about my problem, please ask!
Sorry fot big text guys!

When you jailbroke did you hacktivate? Redsnow auto-hacktivates in some circumstances.
Did you run iOS 3.x and then upgrade to 4.x without setting the phone up as new?

I must tell you, i did so many things trying to fix this, maybe i forget something i did. But there are some points that i can remember:
I tried to restore and set the iphone as a new phone, but nothing.
I can't remember in which version of iOS (3.x or 4.x) i made it, but i tried to install ultrasnow to unlock my phone.
Today, it's jailbroken with jailbreakme.com!
Can this info help?

I guess you have tried rebooting the phone after you switch SIMs - what I understood was that sometimes the carrier bundle switch didn't occur properly until after a reboot (that was back in the iOS 2.x days but maybe it still works like that)
The reason I asked about setting up phone as new is that some people who haven't setup phone from scratch have been bitten by issues with out of date carrier/operator bundles - see http://www.hackint0sh.org/f236/145148.htm for more details.

No I didn't say that. I said that you could have the same root problem that causes some people to lose the ability to tether on iOS 4. Read the link I sent you again.

Re-reading your original post I realise I made a potentially dangerous assumption.
You say "that was unlocked after software update on iTunes". How was it "unlocked"? I assumed you meant an official unlock (where you contacted Oi and said you wanted them to authorise an unlock for you)
However when I look at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937 it says that Oi sells iPhones without any carrier lock. If that is correct then I don't understand what you meant by "that was unlocked after software update on iTunes".
The symptoms you describe could be explained if TIM has IMEI blacklisted your phone. I don't understand why they would do that if your phone was originally sold by Oi (and still works on Oi's network)
Another cause is that you have an old/incompatible TIM sim card, you could ask for a replacement from TIM and tell them you want to use this SIM with an iPhone.

I'm sorry for the confusion.
When i said that my iphone was unlocked after software update, is that i received a unlock confirmation on iTunes after restore and update my iPhone!
i'm sure my SIM is new, cause a bought it a few weeks ago.
As you said, if my iphone is IMEI blacklisted, how the data network is available?
Thanks!

That is what I thought you meant. However according to the Apple page I linked to, this carrier doesn't lock the iPhones they sell. So why did you need to get an authorised carrier unlock in the first place?

Different carriers implement IMEI blacklisting in different ways. The symptoms you describe sound like the way some UK carriers implement blacklisting.
It could be that TIM uses IMEI whitelisting as a way of forcing customers to adopt iPhone specific plans. I don't know enough about the Brazilian telephony market (sorry)
@Aviegas do you have a clearer picture of how Brazilian carriers handle BYO unlocked iPhones?

Well, i think that my iphone is unlocked, i guess that the problem is software based.
Whitout any other option, do you think that a restore can solve my problem?
I have the SHSH for 4.3.3 saved, so i can try to restore and keep my version os iOS.

Yes it could be an issue with hacktivation. You need to reinstall the phone and let it activate via iTunes before your jailbreak. Check that the other carrier's SIM works before you jailbreak.
Your symptoms still sound like a carrier block is in place (to be clear, this is a totally separate concept to the carrier lock that is controlled by Apple/iTunes)
