    Lightbulb Unlock now possible?

Now that greenpoison is out to untether 4.2.1 on the 3gs, can i unlock the 3gs as well now? My friend has one he wants to sell to another friend on t-mobile. I recently did a 3g on a 4.2.1 but that was easy. Everything up until now on the 3gs just looked grim, but now theres this. The 3gs my friend has said it wasnt unlockable (like 2 weeks ago before the untethered JB came out) using f0recast (new bootrom i guess). If greenpoison could install the ipad baseband would that allow the phone to be unlocked using UltraSnow? Does greenpoison even have the option to install the ipad baseband to allow this?

Don't trust f0recast. It is a guide ONLY, and can never be 100% accurate

Greenpois0n doesn't have the ability to install the iPad baseband. You still need to use redsn0w or pwnagetool for that.
Doesn't matter how you install the iPad baseband, you still risk GPS problems with iOS 4.2.1 and you have difficulty restoring. http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/196391.htm
If you did "unlock" this via the iPad baseband and sell it to your friend, be sure to inform your friend about these negatives of the iPad baseband. Otherwise, they will stupidly try to restore it the first time GPS doesn't work and then complain that they can't restore it.

Yeah i knew about the GPS issues. Also whenever i do this for friends, i tell them never to update or restore it either (mostly because i dont want them to break the JB/unlock).

so, in order to unlock the 3gs, the steps are:
    -JB with greenpoison
    -install ipad baseband with redsnow
    -install UltraSnow via cydia

    would that be right?

so, in order to unlock the 3gs, the steps are:
    -JB with greenpoison
    - select "install cydia" only via redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 - this will hacktivate your phone
    - (only install ipad baseband with redsnow if you absolutely need to)
    -install UltraSnow via cydia

You do not need iPad baseband if you successfully JB on 4.2.1 ultrasnow will unlock 6.15 as I did also.

I currently have a jailbronken 3GS with the 05.15.04 firmware locked. What would happen if i upgrade the firmware to the ipad's Version to unlock in case I wanted to upgrade to 4.3 later.

    Thanks

general rule of thumb, at least for me, is if you unlock your phone then forget about upgrading iOS. Too much hassle.

If you upgrade your phone to ipads baseband then you will no longer be able to update to any stock firmware, only custom firmwares. Ultrasnow as far as I know can unlock upto 6.15 baseband.
