Is that correct I won't be able to unlock till apple release another of maybe 2 updates?

Also noticed that the phone is only showing 14 gb and it's actually 32gb, even tho I have restored and hacktivated? Any ideas why?

I answered your unlock question already. Re-read the previous responses in this thread. Specifically I mentioned how you could (maybe) unlock now via official channels.

As for the capacity. If you open Cydia - it has an option that explains better where your disk space is used. Tap on manage, then tap on storage.

Or the combination of first greenpois0n rc6.1 and then redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 (select only "install Cyda") - you must have a non t-mobile SIM inserted while running redsn0w.

Both the above options will hacktivate your iPhone 4
My iphone 4 (US) is on baseband 01.59.00. Is it possible to use Pwnagetool 4.2 to jailbreak and hacktivate without upgrade the baseband? Then unlock throught Ultrasnow?

Should I run Tinyumbrella with my saved SHSH running TSS server while restoring with my custom firmware?

Yes this is possible, you don't need TinyUmbrella, just a custom IPSW made with Pwnagetool 4.2

    You unlock with ultrasn0w.

    Hello all!

First thanks all who support this community! Second, as you probably see, I'm new here (1st post), but I did my "homework" and read the sticky and some docs to have an idea what you guys are talking about.

I'm posting on this thread because more or less I have the same hardware like in the initial post.

    MC603DN/A - iPhone4
    4.2.1
    03.10.01-ICE_2_8

My phone is locked on T-Mobile (and I have no sim card on that network) and I understand (I hope correctly) that there is no unlock for this baseband (03.10.01), but I want to use this iPhone at least with iPod functions until the unlock is out.

Since I don't have a T-Mobile sim card, the annoying Activate message is there all the time and I cannot do anything.

So, I've downloaded PwnageTool 4.2 and the IPSW 4.2.1, get through the wizard and got a custom IPSW. Then got the iPhone in DFU mode, but when I hit Restore (Option key + Restore), it do something like unpack image, then check with Apple if this image is OK (I don't recall the actual message) and then an error:
"this device isn't eligible for the requested build"

    Another question:
In Pwnagetool 4.2 when asked if you can activate the phone legitimately via iTunes, say no.
I don't see that question at all.

Maybe somebody is kind enough to push me in the right direction.

    Thanks and cheers!

Yes, there is no unlock for that baseband, looks like it could be quite a while before such an unlock is released. They have had some serious setbacks.
Of course you can hacktivate and use iPod only functions, but... you may experience very poor battery life.

Have you saved your SHSH for 4.2.1? we have been screaming from the rooftops that everyone should save their 4.2.1 SHSH, this is because as of 3 days ago (11th March) Apple stopped signing 4.2.1 restores & upgrades. Which is why you get the "this device is not eligible" 3194 error.

Have you saved your SHSH for 4.2.1?
I got the phone yesterday, in original box, unactivated. I've download TinyUmbrella and hit save SHSH. Something happened, quite fast and then there was nothing in that window with save SHSH.
I've checked the logs, and there was something with "sorry, you arrived too late...". I will post the message later as I don't have not my Mac with me.

Then I did something (maybe stupid) and jailbreak my iPhone with greenpois0n. Everything went fine, I see that modified apple logo and it start, but still stuck at activate point.
So, I'll go to the T-Mobile store and buy a prepaid card for now and try to activate with that one. Hopefully it will work.

@Olethros - thanks for your efforts, I will appreciate them with a small donation to this community It really deserve it!

Just run redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and select ONLY "install cydia" that will hacktivate your phone.

Then confirm you have a SHSH saved for 4.3 (best you can manage now) and be extremely careful about what you install from Cydia. If you screw up your phone to the point where you need to restore, then your only option is to restore to 4.3 - there is no official jailbreak for 4.3 yet (but the unofficial jailbreaks for 4.3 are limited to a tethered jailbreak)

    Olethros, thanks for advice.
In the meantime, I've got a T-Mobile card and I activate my iPhone. Nice to see that there is something in the back of that "Activate..." message.

As I promised here are the log messages from TinyUmbrella and a screenshot.

I the above lines, there is only one positive phrase (I would say):
"03/14/2011 11:38:27.770 You have saved your iPhone4 4.3 (8F190) SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version."

For sure, I have to read more about TinyUmbrella and SHSH, but maybe in a few words you can explain, what this means?

On iPhone, I have that Loader, so greenpois0n did its job. I just have to install Cydia.
Anything else you would recommend, beside unlock which is not possible now?

    Thanks a lot!

    Here is the screenshot:

Server-side error. Cydia is likely overloaded...
You should retry again, just in case... This error means that you haven't got an accurate answer from Cydia regarding some of the SHSH blobs.

A SHSH blob is unique to your phone and a specific iOS version. It is required to restore/upgrade/downgrade to that specific iOS version. Apple only signs the current iOS version, they stop signing older iOS versions when a new iOS version is released.

Most jailbreaks rely on exploits (holes) in the iOS software which are normally closed by Apple as soon as the exploit is made public. By saving your device's SHSH for a specific iOS version, you can always use jailbreak tools that work with that iOS version.
