    Default ultrasn0w can't unlock 4.2.1 with 6.15.00

I've got an iPhone 3G. It was previously updated with 4.2.1 with iPad baseband 6.15.00, jailbroken and unlocked SUCCESSFULLY. Somehow the phone crapped out (not sure how, it's a friend's phone.)

So I've finally got it back to a workable state. I downloaded a custom 4.2.1 firmware which is already activated and jailbroken and put it on. I then tried installing ultrasn0w from the default repo666 repo, but it didn't work (i.e. wouldn't unlock the phone; phone refuses to recognize any SIM.)

I then tried downloading a previous version of ultrasn0w (1.2), and tried that. Same story.
I then tried another version of ultraSn0w 6.15 only version from the heaveniphone repo. Same story.

What am I doing wrong? This phone was WORKING before, and now I can't get it to recognize any SIM card, not even the original provider's. I've been working on this for days now, I hope someone can help!

I should also mention: the power button on this phone is broken. Fixing it is not an option right now.
Up until the phone crapped out, I was able to successfully reboot it by using the Reboot option from SBSettings, or just choosing Power Down from SBSettings and then plugging it back into the computer. Every time, plugging it into the computer would turn it back on, but not this time.

I didn't need to hacktivate, because the custom iOS version I downloaded was already hacktivated.

Make your own custom IPSW, otherwise you cannot properly troubleshoot this type of problem. We don't support/encourage pirates here.

Oh I didn't realize posting custom IPSWs was considered piracy, sorry.

Well it's a moot point anyways because I think I'm dealing with a hardware problem. I know this phone's been manhandled a bit and the power/sleep button doesn't work, so I wouldn't be surprised if the SIM reader doesn't work either. At the moment the phone won't even acknowledge that a SIM card is inserted, no matter what it is.

Sounds likely. If you would make your own custom IPSW you could rule that out as a cause.
