Default MMS and VVM problems after patch

    Hi Dade,

I installed the patch and enabled tethering perfectly, but after a few days when I went to send an MMS and failed, I noticed that this patch does interfere with MMS and VVM. I found the same problem on my wife's iPhone. We both have 3G[S] with the old bootroom, upgraded to 4.0 using custom firmware from PwnageTool 4.01. Once I change the 2 bytes back and reboot, VVM and MMS work.

Is there something else you need to do besides the patch to keep VVM and MMS working? (This is with AT&T, of course)

As an aside, what I found worked was installing Supreme Preferences 3.0 and enabling cellular data editing. Then I was able to change the username to wap@cingulargprs.com and password to CINGULAR1 for both APNs. Once I do that, MMS and VVM come to life. There has to be a better way, however, because I don't want Winterboard/Supreme Preferences, and I think it may be draining battery like crazy. If I remove both after making the change, it goes back to dead, and sometimes even the MMS camera icon goes away and the option in the Messages page to turn it on: I need to reset network settings but I am back to working tethering with dead MMS/VVM.

    Any ideas?

Default Same MMS problem as Steve

Yeah, i have the same problem with sending MMS (not sure about receiving). It's not that big of a deal because being able to tether is more important than sending MMS since i always prefer sending images via email anyway.

Default So I wasn't going crazy

OK, so I wasn't going crazy A warning though; it's not just MMS you are losing... Visual Voice Mail is dead too, which is a little more serious (to me). The SurpremePreferences Cellular Data Network trick I mentioned does work to give you all three, but I interpretted Dade's message to mean he had all 3 working, no problem: if so, what's the secret?

I think I found that adding a mobile config got VVM but not MMS working, but I think the reason is the mobile config didn't have the right username/password mentioned in my previous email. If that is so, anybody have out there a config file that has wap.cingulargprs.com/CINGULAR1 for both APNs? If I use that, will ios4 just reject it because we didn't patch out all the checks? Anyone?

I'm sorry if VVM/MMS is not working. Currently I have no bugfix (I can not test). There is a patch to enable IPCC files, but you need to have a fake signature in it. I'm sure I can also remove this, but have no jailbroken device to test.

so until I'm back you can use this solution: [click]

when the iPhone 4 Jailbreak is out and no race conditions appear to CommCenter patching I will modify this to also accept IPCC bundles without fake signatures. (like from ipcc.ch.vu for 3.1.3).

I think I see the problem. The patch prevents the username and password from being filled in for the MMS section when installing a mobileconfig. That's why SupremePreferences 3.0 helps: I can edit and fill in the two pieces. Is there a way to modify the patch so it doesn't affect the MMS settings? So the type check works for the MMS mask, but not the others?

    Talking Solution!

I am shocked to say this, but I got it to work!

I reverted Dade's patch, installed Wortel's patch and then uploaded with iTunes a modified IPCC. To make the new IPCC I copied the stock AT&T bundle on to my PC with iPhoneBrowser, upped the Info.plist's version to 7.1 and in the carrier.plist removed the section about the "broadband" APN and changed the type-mask for the normal carrier data "phone" APN to the boolean-OR (sum) of the two APNs I am combining. For kicks, I added the XML settings to give the ability to edit the carrier information, but it turns out I don't need that menu; it just worked out of the box.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Care to illustrate further what you meant by "changed the type-mask for the normal carrier data "phone" APN to the boolean-OR (sum) of the two APNs I am combining" ?

    Thanks!

    Default Clarification

    Sure.

What I did is I looked at the carrier.plist file after converting it to XML format using erica utilities's plutil (plutil -convert xml1 carrier.plist, but not on the original: I copied it to a temporary directory first)

Looking at the XML file there are sections that say <key>apn</key>. I noticed there's an APN with type-mask of 4. That means it is used only for tethering. I got rid of the whole <dict>...</dict> section for that APN. But I found an APN with a type-mask of 45, the normal data output. I changed that number to 49. Now tethering will go through the normal APN (named phone)

You may want to google making an IPCC file for more help.

Hmm.. i wonder why the type-mask for my AT&T carrier.plist is different from yours. My "phone" APN has a type-mask of 17. "acds.voicemail" has a type-mask of 2. "wap.cingular" APN has a type-mask of 4 and finally, "broadband" APN has a type-mask of 32. How should i go about changing mine? Thanks!

    Default Oops

I misremembered it. The "broadband" APN was 32, the "phone" APN was 17. That's where I got the number 49. 32 bitwise-OR 17 ==> 49. I just remembered the original mask wrong.

Get rid of the section for broadband and add the 32 from there onto the 17 from phone. Now tethering traffic will go through the phone APN, like Dade's fix, but this doesn't break the rest.

Once you edit the carrier and Info plist files (change the version from 7.0 to 7.1), you just need to package up a new IPCC file and you're good to go.
