Question Stucked at logo: ios 4.2.1, iphone 3gs, ipad baseband, unlocked with ultrasn0w 1.2

    Hi all,

After lot of calculated decision I stepped ahead to fuse ipad baseband and unlock iphone 3GS on 4.2.1 OS. my phone is freeze now at logo.

    Action performed:
    a) Updated unlocked iphone 3gs with 4.2.1
    b) Jailbreaked with redsn0w, install cydia and ipad baseband
    c) Rebooted phone in teatherd boot mode
    d) Opened Cydia and installed ultrasn0w 1.2
    e) Rebooted and then STUCK at apple logo

Next Step: Since nothing was happening then I tried restoring original IPSW 4.2.1 by going in DFU mode via ITUNES, it started well but later gave error 1015 (I read somewhere that it is common)

Current State: After restore failed phone is always in recovery mode.

I dont have SCSH or any file backed up.

    Questions:
Can I use any custom IPSW to escape?
Is there anyway I can go to 3.1.3 firmware?

I have noticed loads of post with same things but none has problem like me.

    Please help.

all you have to do is run redsn0w and select to "just boot tethered now ...", follow the instructions on the screen.

That is the nature of tether boot.

Thanks for prompt reply, but in tethered mode also it gets stuck at logo (pineapple) sign.

Any other suggestions. I know lot of people faced problem for stuck at logo after unlocking 4.2.1 .. I am really stuck. Is there any bootloader software that can reflash it?

Your mistake was to restore an original 4.2.1 IPSW via iTunes. It says clearly in the instructions on Dev-Team Blog - Ultra-recycle that this is NOT supported.

If you have a new bootrom 3GS (sounds like you do because you have tethered jailbreak at 4.2.1) then you are most likely 100% stuck.

You should NOT have attempted this without a 4.1 SHSH

    Custom IPSW will NOT help.

The only thing you can try is:

Use redsn0w 0.9.6 with the "install Cydia" option.
Then if that worked, try to "just boot tethered" again.
With both these steps, supply redsn0w with a 3GS 4.2.1 IPSW and answer "new bootrom" if redsn0w asks you what bootrom version you have.

Report back if you can boot the phone again. Don't try and open Cydia or try to install anything.

    Default Nothing seems working

    Hi Olethros,

I tried the same thing what you told.

Used redsn0w 0.9.6b6 and installed cydia -> this went through, phone rebooted and went again in restore mode.

Then used redsn0w again and tried booting in tethered mode..

the pineapple logo comes, hands and phone again comes in restore mode.. I think its bricked now? is there any trace32 or some custom bootloading procedure? I am used to andriod devices and I got this phone to experiment on apple but it seems it has hard time to install. Does it have some steps where you just boot kernel (it seems DFU mode is the same), install firmware bin files, like modem(baseband) only and then apps (ios).. I dont have much knowledge in apple's procedure but I know this is how I do in andriod .. no doubt its complex..

I'm sure you can get up to speed with iOS boot process if you have some familiarity with android.

Read up at theiphonewiki start with the SecureROM (bootrom) and work your way through the boot chain and the ramdisk based restore process.

iRecovery and similar tools can send the boot images to your iPhone. For tethered boot, syringe https://github.com/Chronic-Dev/syringe and tools derived from it are very useful
