So why do they say that once you have used Spirit you cannot use anything else? I thought you can always restore and it will be back to like nothing happened, so I am bit unclear on the statements by the devteam. Is it about competition? Or actually a legit reason?

I have a 3.1.3 activated and I created a custom ipsw. Would like to unlock it or update it to iOS4. But I have not because it has the new bootrom and read not to use spirit. I got a replacement phone since my old one was not wrking properly and I should have waited.

Any suggestions? dtube? mfstguy?

They are saying that because spirit does not jailbreak on a level deep enough for you to be able to load a custom ipsw, which is currently the only way to get a 3GS to 4.0. Do not try to update to a custom 4.0 as it will fail and if you do not have your SHSH backed up then you will be stuck there without the ability to jailbreak or unlock.

So if the 3gs is restored and jailbroken with something else besides spirit, will it be now ok for sn0wbreeze?

As long as it is an old bootrom 3GS then yes

Thanks for the answer, so I guess I could just use spirit to unlock 3.1.3 for now and then once the tools are available restore and then use the new tools. Right? Too many variables right now. Did hear some guy in UK is abt to release a new JB for the new bootrom. Hope he comes thru.

Spirit jailbreak is a userland jailbreak hence it does not pwn the LLB like redsn0w/blackra1n. Spirit was designed mainly to JB 3.1.3 and to help people with new bootrom from having to do a tether-boot with blackra1n and redsn0w.

You have 3GS running 3.1.3 with new bootrom. There is nothing you can do at this point to go to IOS4 jailbroken. You have to wait for now.

you can use spirit to jailbreak your 3GS running 3.1.3 with new bootrom.
You can use ultrasn0w 0.93 to unlock. That is all you can do at this point.
No IOS 4 at this time for you.

Apple is not signing 3.1.3 anymore so it already to late for that, but definitely get your 4.0 SHSH saved

Guess I am not so out of luck as comex is abt to release a new jb.

I found it out the hard hard way but thanks to iReb I got my phone back
