Saving SHSH Blobs, and still updating with new FW updates, no jailbreak, no unlock.
I tried searching but could not find an answer for this...
if I have an ATT iphone 4, factory, currently on the latest FW 4.2.1. I have been saving all SHS blobs for future's sake. When I update to 4.3 when it comes out, just the normal way through itunes, seeing as I saved the SHSH Blobs with tiny umbrella, will I get an error, or will it work normal as far as updating to 4.3 when it becomes available.
,
Thanks for clearing the confusion before I attempt it.
Cheers

Do you mean you have an AT&T phone that is factory unlocked? I didn't think that AT&T offered an officially unlocked iPhone.
They offer a no-contract phone, but it is still locked to AT&T
Why some iPhone 4 owners who saved SHSH blobs got an error going to 4.2.1 is because their computer had been configured to always ask Saurik's server for a SHSH blob during restore/upgrade.
TinyUmbrella for example when you quit this app, it updates your computer to talk to Saurik's server instead of talking directly to Apple. You can change this behaviour in TinyUmbrella's advanced preferences.
With the iPhone 4, the baseband update also has a SHSH, but this specific SHSH can't be used more than one time. This causes problems with services like TinyUmbrella and Saurik's server which save your SHSH and on future restores give you the saved SHSH instead of requesting a new SHSH from Apple.
That is why you get 101x errors during upgrade/restore on the iPhone 4. This means your baseband wasn't updated. Mostly these errors can be bypassed using iRecovery or similar.
In addition, the actual restore process on 4.2.1 seems to include some extra checks to be 100% sure that the baseband and OS match. This check requires a jailbreak type exploit to bypass. It's 99% likely that the same check will be in iOS 4.3 - but until iOS 4.3 is released and tools start to be updated, we can't really give a specific answer to your question.

Thanks for the reply Olethros,
I have a factory locked, non-jailbroken Ip 4, actually 2 of them , wife and myself, and I have been saving the SHSH blobs for both of them since the start, the wife's FW currently is on 4.2.1, on BB 3.10, and mine is 4.0.2, on BB 1.59.
The reason for this question is when I first got the 2 phones, I backed up SHSH blobs on both, and then updated firmware to the latest one at the time. Hers updated and went to 4.2.1, from 4.1. Mine got caught in this recovery error, which at the time I did not understand, and thought the phone was faulty and sent it back to Apple, and they in turn replaced it. The new one they sent me had the 4.0.2 FW, with 1.59 BB, so I have left it as is for the last 3 months, and did not update my FW.
So I guess I wait a little longer....but still confused why one did it, and one did not get the error?
If I want to update FW on my wife's phone when 4.3 is officially released via itunes, and not wish to unlock or JB at this time, and have saved the SHSH blobs as I mentioned, what setting should I have this tinyumbrella in in the advanced settings to prevent the error, or as you stated, it is too early to say until the tools are released?
Cheers,
Now, when 4.3 comes out, I would like to upgrade my FW from 4.0.2 but was curious before I get into it, why the wife's phone updated no problem, the last time, where mine did not, despite using the same computer, and tinyumbrella version on both.

There are two factors at play here.
Firstly, for all Iphone 4 restores/updates where the computer is configured to always ask "saurik's server" for a SHSH first. This will always produce the Error 1004 on restore/upgrade, this is because the Baseband Nonce currently in memory doesn't match the nonce returned in the Baseband Firmware SHSH blob.
Solution is to use TinyUmbrella to exit recovery mode.
With iOS 4.2.1, there was an extra difference between the "update" and "restore" behaviour. With the restore, there is an extra check to confirm that the baseband is actually the correct version. This check doesn't exist in the update ramdisk. Use greepois0n to bypass this Error 1013 (or the very latest TinyUmbrella beta)
Maybe you left tiny umbrella running during the restore of your wife's phone, I don't think it changes the host file until you quit Tiny Umbrella.
Also.. maybe you restarted your own phone between backing up the SHSH and trying to update it. The Nonce value is randomly generated each time the phone boots.
Finally, maybe you clicked "check for updates" when updating your wife's phone and "restore" when updating your own.
Each of these would probably explain the differences in upgrade behaviour.

for the clarification, very much appreciate it...
So what is the better solution however, change the settings in tinyumbrella meaning uncheck the "always ask Sauriks server for SHSH first" and then re-save the SHSH blobs again (and quit tiny umbrella this time before trying to update), or leave as is with SHSH blobs saved as they are with the server thing checked, and update FW to 4.3 and use Tiny Umbrella to exit recovery mode when it errors?
I did use check for updates on both phones, that much I know...I have been using Pwnage for 3 years with iphone 2g so I have been unlocking but using the older methods, before this SHSH thing started to happen.
Thanks again for the clarification
