Question Restore to 4.2.1 firmware file not compatible

I have been searching forums all day and cannot find anything on my specific problem.

    I currently have my iPhone 4 jailbroken with limera1n.(firmware: 4.1; baseband:02.10.04-ICE_2_8) I am trying to upgrade/restore to 4.2.1 using tiny umbrella v4.30.04.
I have downloaded iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw and when I try to restore in itunes(v10.2.1.1) I get the error code "...the firmware file is not compatible."

    I have my SSH blobs saved for 4.1; 4.2.1, 4.2b3, and 4.3

I cannot solve the error but I am starting to think I need an older version of itunes. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Ray

Can you post the restore log? or at least quote the error code - not the text message. Is the code 3194?

    Re-download the iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw from here http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm

It turns out that the restore file I downloaded got interrupted so the file size was half of what it should have been. Downloaded the full file from the link you provided. Did the restore and rejailbroke with greenpois0n. The only problem I had was when I restored from last sync all my apps were unchecked and didn't sync. So I have to put them all on my phone and in folders again which is a pain.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

FYI, this could have borked all of your app data, high scores, savegames. If so, you can get them back by right clicking the iPhone in iTunes and restoring from backup AFTER all of the apps have synchronized with the device. Just hope you had a somewhat recent backup. My dad did this recently with his new iPad and was not pleased he would have to set everything up again, etc.
