recovery loop (due to baseband/OS mismatch)
Hi everybody,
I have JB my IP4 using PwnageTool 4.2.1 succesfully and after a while decided (fullish enough) to perform "master" reset of my Iphone in order to return it to a "clean" state. I got stuck in recovery loop since then.
I DID click on "Make my life easier" in Cydia and it was like two weeks or more ago.
Now there is no way I can restore to 4.2.1 using cydia or not in "hosts" file on both win and mac. (tried both)
Tried TinyAmbrella but it does not show any SHSH in the list. Any suggestions?
As a last resort (which I would not like to do) would it help to perform UPDATE from iTunes to the latest version? Would it bring the phone alive again?

Moved to a separate thread (you seemed to be trying to take over an unrelated thread - this is called threadjacking)
Don't trust "make my life easier" to grab your SHSH in any realistic timeframe (it can take weeks for your request to be processed by Saurik's servers - they have so many devices in the queue). Always use TinyUmbrella.
Do you require unlock?

Well, with all due respect, I don't think my post was unrelated, as my problem is related to 1013 (and similar) iTunes error... but thx anyway, hence I'm not in classic reboot loop - it is recovery loop.
So, you think that I should wait some more time and there might be my SSHS shown on Cydia? I guess this would help. Are you aware if there is a way to check if my request is pending at least?
I would not like upgrading to latest IOS.
Unlock? I guess you would be the only person in the world having 4.2.1 3.10.01 unlock
BTW I will try the greenpois0n solution to bring the phone back to life after 1013 - this is a priority because I have just a brick right now.
I wonder is there a way to bring to phone back to "virgin" state with some tool without SHSH, as it seems I can not access them from cydia (even if I am sure I saved it for 4.2.1 weeks ago)

You didn't mention anything about 1013 error in your post.
TinyUmbrella will tell you accurately which SHSH you have saved locally and on Cydia.
For example Cydia still says the highest SHSH my iPhone 4 has is 4.2.1 but TinyUmbrella tells me that Cydia actually has 4.3 and all the 4.3 beta SHSHs saved for the same phone.
It could take a month before the actual display in Cydia is updated to accurately represent the SHSHs saved for my device.
Topic renamed, as you are right it is a recovery loop.
No unlock update, sorry - I am as much in the dark regarding unlock as you are.

Well, thx again.. I thought the errors I get in iTunes are included in the "no way I can restore to 4.2.1 wih iTunes" part
As I already noted, TinyUmbrella does not show ANY saved SHSH, this is a very new phone produced this year, so there is no chance to have any previous SHSHs... so that is the main reason I can not restore with cydia server in hosts file.
And trying to restore on "pure" apple finished with 1013 after I changed to another machine (as suggested on some other places). So the version of the OS is (and was factory 4.2.1/3.10.01) which is not signed by apple anymore as I understand. So I guess I have two solutions - 1. Wait for my SHSH to appear on cydia, or
2. try the solution to restore to original 4.2.1 ipsw, run greenpois0n 6.1 and hopefully un-brick it as suggested solution to resolve e1013/loop. The only problem with the second one - the phone will be jb-ed but not (h)activated. Would you know is it possible to restore to custom activated jb-ed 4.2.1 and run greenpois0n to at least keep activation?
Regards

I'm wondering if you have actually used TinyUmbrella correctly. Does the log tab in TinyUmbrella say stuff like "CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH" for each iOS version from 4.0 up?
You have highlighted your phone on the left and clicked "save SHSH", then waited???
What iOS version caused the 1013 error during a restore attempt?
There is absolutely no point "waiting for Cydia to show your SHSH". Either Cydia has processed your SHSH request (but hasn't updated the display) or Cydia didn't get to your request before Apple stopped signing 4.2.1 (much, much more likely)
For you information: Apple stopped signing 4.2.1 for the iPhone 4 on 11 March 2011 - so if you clicked "make my life easier" after that date, then there is zero chance Cydia has your 4.2.1 SHSH
As for your other solution - what you suggest will never work.

I don't think you understand the basic problem here:
You cannot (successfully) restore 4.2.1 without a device specific SHSH for 4.2.1 - there are exploits that allow you to reflash with an unsigned IPSW but you will just end up with a phone that is stuck in a DFU loop (as the hardware on the iPhone 4 checks for the SHSH and won't boot at all if it is missing)
So.. spend some time properly checking what SHSH you have saved with TinyUmbrella (it should at least report that you can save 4.3.1)

i will check TinyUmbrella logs in more detail when I'm back home. I was trying to restore both Custom IPSW 4.2.1 (pwnagetool 4.2.1) which actually was on my phone before the unfortunate "master" reset, and official virgin 4.2.1 .
Both with no success.
What I do remember about tinyumbrella is that in the list I don't see any SHSHs, I see my phone connected, but only ECID data is shown, and I have no model listed (question mark lefto of ECID in the left treeview) (tried both mac and windows)

I can not check the actual Cydia display, as my phone is bricked, I was referring to TinyUmbrella's list.

Yes, I'm sure I have clicked on "Yes, make my life easier" before that date.

Well, I do understand (the nonsense of it), as I assumed as the original factory firmware of my phone WAS 4.2.1 and I did not change FW or BB versions from the factory defaults, there must be a way to revert it to factory defaults without upgrading.
As I recall TinyUmbrella's logs saving sshs does pretty much nothing (it is suspicious it does not read any more information from the phone apart from ECID, as I can connect to it only in recovery mode)
As for the Greenpois0n 6.1 it is said on numerous places that it is actually resolving the DFU/restore loop with error 1013, not producing it, and that without the SSHS. As I am already in such a loop, I don't see how it could make it worse even if it doesn't work

Don't confuse DFU and recovery loops, they indicate very different problems.
Greenpois0n can fix the 1015 and 1013 restore loops (on 4.2.1 only) it can't fix a DFU loop.
Try to create a manual device in TinyUmbrella with your ECID and
There are some extra complexities with the iPhone 4 and requesting a SHSH - if the request is sent to Apple, then you need to have your phone running (normally, not stuck in a bootloop) and connected to the computer.
Other iOS devices don't actually need to be connected to the computer during the SHSH request.
The reason for this is the same reason you get a 1013 error - on the iPhone 4 upgrading (or downgrading) the baseband itself requires a SHSH blob. Unlike the SHSH blob for the IPSW, the baseband SHSH blob is only valid until the phone is next rebooted, so it can't be cached by TinyUmbrella or Cydia.

). does it mean I can use Greenpois0n? BTW when connected to TU (latest version) in DFU or recovery mode, I can not save SHSH, and no SHSH are loaded.
UPDATE: I have just managed to restore my Custom firmware back to the phone using windows as I was writing previos lines...
using cydia server in hosts ! I don't know if some intermediate steps helped or not
(first I received error 1600 then used iReb-r4, again iTunes, and it was a success)

If the restore completed, does the phone boot?
What iOS version was the custom IPSW?
