    Default Quick help?

    Just a simple question:
I got a Jailbroken+Unlocked(it needs to be unlocked) iPhone 3GS with fw 3.1.2. I also have a hackintosh laptop. Is it possible to install iOS 4.0 and Jailbreak+Unlock it? If yes, how stable is it, do you recommend it?

Note: Is limera1n.com official site for limera1n unlock? I'll use that for unlocking 4.0 right?

    thanks

there is no such thing called limera1n. Don't even think about limera1n.

The most important item on your iphone 3GS is the bootrom version. If it has new bootrom 359.3.2 then there isn't anything you can do at this point to have IOS4 on it.

If the phone has old bootrom 359.3 then you can use pwnagetool 4.0.1 on your hackint0sh to create custom firmware IOS4. Once the custom firmware is created, you put your iphone 3GS in restore/recovery mode and restore with the custom firmware you just created. Once it's done, you can use ultrasn0w 0.93 to unlock it.

DO NOT attempt to use custom firmware on a 3GS with new bootrom.

Oh sorry, my fault. I forgot to tell you it's the old bootrom. But JUST IN CASE I saw it wrong, is it makes a guarantee that the phone was bought in august of 2009 means it's old bootrom?

Thanks... By the way you sure there won't be any problems on hackintosh? I mean if I "brick" the phone, it's still recoverable with another mac(using the method to restore it to custom FW) right?

Yes august 2009 means old bootrom.

Do you have SHSH backups for iOS 3.1.3 or earlier? Almost anything screwup can be fixed by a DFU mode restore (requires backed up SHSH) to 3.1.3 and then jailbreaking again. The only thing this can't fix is if you have corrupted the baseband - that generally requires a return to Apple for a replacement. Bricking the baseband is quite uncommon and can even happen for people who never jailbroke.
